HUGE BEAR
WINES
Meet Expert Wine Guides
Damian Lagle and Jeanie Connelly
You will find Damian Lagle and/or Jeanie Connelly working in
the tasting room on any given day. They share a passion for great
wine, so its no surprise that these two love to pour Huge Bear
Wines and navigate you through the delicious distinctions that
come with each bottle.
Huge Bears tasting room sits in the wild, wild, west of

Feature Head
downtown Calistoga in the old national bank. Here, Damian and
Jeanie take you on an expedition like no other, pouring small
production wines to suit your adventurous taste.

About Damian Lagle

Damian came to Huge Bear with nearly 30 years of hands-on
experience in the wine industry. Born in Oregon, he moved to central
Texas where he grew up on a vineyard with his family until he was
29 years of age. As he put it, Id been growing grapes from the ripe
old age of 13. From there, he went to purchase and run a 30-acre
vineyard in Lake County, California, growing and selling grapes.
In 2007, he sold his property and began working in tasting rooms
throughout the Napa Valley, joining Huge Bear in 2015. He loves
spreading the word about great big wines. Because I have a deep-
rooted history in grape-growing, Im able to offer an additional piece
of knowledge, not only about the production of the juice, but the
Jeanie Connelly and Damian Lagle growing of the grapes. In the tasting room, what he tries to offer is a
pleasant and enjoyable experience that guests will always remember.
Humor is key. What matters most is that, you have a good time!

Damians Favorite Wine Picks:

If you ask Damian which Huge Bear wines he loves the most, hed
have to say undeniably the 2015 Sauvignon Blanc, Sonoma County
for its light, crisp taste. He describes this vintage as, summertime in
a glass. He also praises the 2013 Red Blend Ursa Gigantes, which
means Big Bear in Latin, for its depth, ripe fruit and beautiful deep,
purple hue. The blend changes every single vintage. For the 2013,
the blend is 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot. This
wine goes well with a hearty steak and potato dish.

About Jeanie Connelly

Jeanie was born in Chicago but moved to sunny Napa in 2000
to work as a concierge at a hotel. For the past eight years, shes been
working in the wine industry, and at Huge Bear since 2015. From
the time she stepped foot into the tasting room, she was impressed

with the owners. Their respect and team-effort approach

trickles down to the staff. They all work together as a team.
Everyone matters here.
Shes also impressed with the wines because, as she says,
They are simply some of the best wines in the valley.
Jeanie strives to give each person a custom experience,
educating them as little, or as much, as they want. She loves
when people leave with wine they usually wouldn't buy after
tasting something new and learning more about it.

Jeanies Favorite Wine Picks:

Jeanie praises the 2013 Cabernet Franc because its
everything it should be: fruit-forward, elegant and sexy
with a hint of cocoa. With only 90 cases produced, its a
must have. Itll blow your mind. She also speaks highly
of the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon with it smooth taste
and no huge tannins. She calls it The Porch Pounder,

B CELLARS
The Hospitality House at B Cellars is an elevated experience in food and wine
pairings. The collaborative efforts of Duffy Keys and Jim Borsack, who decided to create
B Cellars following an idea discussed during a barbecue, have more than paid off in the
elegant array of varietals theyve produced since pairing talents in 2002. Add to this,
Kirk Venges role as wine consultant paired with a culinary team worthy of a Michelin-
star and state-of-the-art kitchen behind the bar, and youve got a recipe for distinction.
By reservation only, several choices of wine adventures offer something for
everyone. The Sojourn ($37) wine and cheese pairing is a perfect pre-dinner
experience, just as the Chefs Garden Pairing ($135) is a full-on food and wine
escapade.
For those who prefer a modest, yet luxurious experience of wine/food pairings,
the Oakville Trek ($70) is a great way to enjoy a tour through the B Cellars culinary
garden, crush pad, and wine caves with glass-in-hand before sitting at one of the
tables inside the Hospitality House that doubles as a boutique shop with shelves of
wine country memorabilia offered for sale.
Off to a superb start, an Oakville Trek begins with a tasting of 2014 Blend 23:
Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier, paired with an amuse bouche of iron-cast
shrimp doused with Espelette butter made with dried, grated French chili priced at $120
per ounce. The light, floral aromas match the taste of this wine and food pairing perfectly,
and it becomes instantly clear youre in for a treat on this tour.
As Sous Chef, Shane, covers fresh-cooked brioche with a kitchen towel, he declares,
I cant say Ive ever worked a day. He loves what he does in the open kitchen at B
Cellars, showcasing culinary masterpieces that evolve depending on sourced local
protein and in-season produce available.

more vineyards, including To Kalon, where fruit is sourced.
The culinary garden is bursting with kale and edible
flowers Ryan plucks for those who would like to taste an
essence of cucumber. Just beyond the culinary garden is the
hen house.
A walk around the bend leads to the production facility
of concrete and stainless steel tanks, followed by a tour
and barrel tasting of soon-to-be-bottled Zinfandel in the
cave. According to Ryan, an astounding 90% of B Cellars
wines are sold direct-to-consumer via their wine club.
Impressed and ready for more, the group is escorted
back to the Hospitality Room, where warm towels are
distributed before a triple-bowl serving dish of portabella
slider, duck cannelloni meatball extraordinaire are
served with a B Cellars red blend, a Syrah and Cabernet

Stags Leap Districts

Vineyard to Vintner Weekend, April 28-30
Each year, member wineries of the Stags Leap District Winegrowers open
their doors for one weekend to give visitors exclusive access to their wines,
their vineyards and the people behind this iconic wine region. Vineyard
to Vintner is a weekend of intimate opportunities to taste world renowned
Cabernets while mingling with winery owners and winemakers. Visitors are
given personal and backstage access to private homes and historic wineries,
with private tours, barrel tastings and food pairings, all set amongst the
glorious vineyards and billowing Palisades of the Stags Leap District. Simply
put, this annual weekend is packed with experiences that visitors cant find
anywhere else.
Vineyard to Vintner commences Friday night with four distinct dinners.
Each 45-person dinner is co-hosted by several vintners and is prepared by a
famed Napa Valley culinary talent. The 2017 Friday dinner venues include
Cliff Lede Vineyards, Clos Du Val, Shafer Vineyards, Silverado Vineyards
and Stags Leap Winery. Co-hosts dig deep into their cellars to share their
most cherished library wines for this food and wine experience.
On Saturday, individual winery open houses provide the ultimate back-
stage pass to the associations member wineries. Guests spend the day
up close and personal with vintners, visiting private homes and historic
wineries alike, while enjoying special access to wines and food pairings that
are not available to the general public.
The Vineyard to Vintner weekend concludes Sunday with a fabulous,
vintner-hosted farm-to-table buffet lunch amid the sprawling acres of
majestic views at Regusci Winery Ranch. Guests also taste a sneak preview
of the not-yet-released 2014 Stags Leap District Appellation Collection.
Vineyard to Vintner hosts include: Baldacci Family Vineyards, Chimney
Rock Winery, Cliff Lede Vineyards, Clos Du Val, Ilsley Vineyards, Lindstrom
Wines, Malk Family Vineyards, Odette Estate, Pine Ridge Vineyards,
Quixote Winery, Regusci Winery, Shafer Vineyards, Silverado Vineyards,
Stags Leap Wine Cellars, Stags Leap Winery, Steltzner Vineyards, and Taylor
Family Vineyards. Packages are available for one, two or three days allowing
guests to experience the entire weekend or to enjoy one glorious day.
Vineyard to Vintner is truly an exclusive opportunity to taste and
discover the Stags Leap Districts distinctive and iconic wines, as well as
to meet the talent behind these wines. Its a weekend that Cabernet lovers
and appellation loyalists look forward to year after year. You can find more
information and purchase tickets, at http://www.stagsleapdistrict.com/v2v.php

Two Amazing Restaurants!

There are two restaurants on the property, The Tides Wharf
(which also has an amazing seafood market), a classic American
seafood house, which offers some of the best clam chowder on
the West Coast and The Bay View Restaurant and Lounge, a
casual, yet elegant Italian restaurant with high wood-beamed
ceilings, large bay windows, crackling fireplaces and an outdoor
terrace. The wine list is a perfect blend of local favorites and
Italian wines, but if you have had a full day of wine tasting and
are craving an excellent beer or craft cocktail, the full bar will
definitely exceed your expectations. Dont miss their monthly
Winemaker Dinner Series!
I had the pleasure of having dinner at the Bay View Restaurant
during my mid-week getaway with my sweetheart and we were
both very impressed with the attentive service and off-the-hook
entrees. I ordered the Cioppino and it was chock-full of lobster,
crabmeat, mussels, clams, prawns and local seafood, swimming in
a saffron-infused broth and served with warm, toasty garlic bread.
It was amazing! My sweetheart ordered the Osso Buco, which
was rich and savory and served atop creamy polenta. OMG! The
portions of both entrees were generous (Youll probably ask for a
doggie bag) and absolutely delicious. We were so full that we had
to decline dessert!

2017 Savor Sonoma Valley
March 18 & 19
The Ultimate Barrel Tasting Experience
Heart of Sonoma Valley Association announced their premier
event of the year the 2017 Savor Sonoma Valley is happening
Saturday and Sunday, March 18 and 19 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00
p.m. both days. Seventeen wineries throughout Kenwood and Glen
Ellen will be showcasing the 2016 vintage from barrels, sampling
new releases and offering current award-winning wines.
Meet winemakers, taste reserve wines, sample barrel wines,
mingle with wine lovers in caves and on crush pads, enjoy live
music, tour wineries and vineyards, and savor a wonderful wine
country weekend. Most importantly, this event offers guests the
chance to take an advance look at what the 2016 vintage is going to
be like in bottle!
This year 17 wineries in our association are going to pull out
all the stops for an epic wine tasting and barrel tasting experience,
AUTEUR
said Executive Director Josie Gay. Instead of focusing on food and
