Information Report
In the early hours of 26 April 1986, one of four nuclear reactors at the Chernobyl
power station exploded because human mistakes. Russia was slow to admit what
had happened, even after increased radiation was detected in other countries.
Contamination is still a problem, however, and disputes continue about how many
will eventually die as a result of the worlds worst nuclear accident.
The disaster released at least 100 times more radiation than the atom bombs
dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima. The number of people who could eventually
die as a result of the accident is highly controversial. It expects up to 93.000 extra
cancer deaths, with other illnesses taking the toll as high as 200.000.
High spills of radiation into the atmosphere are harmful to animals and plants as
well as human beings. In addition, the isotopes released during the incident are
considered to have lived longer when compared to those released during atomic
bomb tests. This variation produces radioactivity curves with different shapes.
Chernobyl radiation effects were evident in Ukraine, Belarus as well as Russia.
Nature seems to have overtaken settlements and villages left by the natives
after the accident. Although it looks scattered, there is clear evidence of what took
place in 1986 at Chernobyl leading to deaths, loss of property, reduced population
and less productivity.
Nuclear is a dangerous weapon which can cause a big impact. Mistakes made
by human being can be so fatal. People in the next generation will also experience
the impact. Therefore, technicians are expected to work optimally, Thats all
information about Chernobyl nuclear disaster.
