Effect of western food (Fast Food)

Western-style fast food outlets are found around the world,

particularly in Asian countries, which the number and statistic

about obesity keep raising up all the time. The worlds largest

fast food restaurant company, KFC and Pizza Hut operates

nearly 38,000 restaurants around the world in more than 110

countries, with over 4,650 fast food outlets in China. Globally,

there are more than 33,000 McDonalds outlets in 119 countries

and territories, serving around 68 million customers daily. Even

in China alone, the number of McDonalds outlets grew from 1

in 1990 to 1,000 in 2006, and the company has plans to double

this figure by 2013.Meanwhile, daily per capita sales of

carbonated soft drinks in China increased 145% and 127% for

Coca Cola and PepsiCo, respectively, between year 2000 and

year 2010. In India, the average annual growth rate of all soft

drink sales was 12.6% between 1997 and 2007. So it show that

people around the world really enjoy eating fast food and the

number of people who eat it keep increasing though out the

Until now according to the world statistic more than two-

thirds (68.8 percent) of adults are considered to be overweight

or obese. More than one-third (35.7 percent) of adults are

considered to be obese. More than 1 in 20 (6.3 percent) have

extreme obesity. Almost 3 in 4 men (74 percent) are considered

to be overweight or obese and the percentages keep increasing

all the time. Which according to the increasing number of the

fast food restaurant which increasing each year everything

start to make sense.

There are so many type of diseases that caused by

western food or fast food such as not enough nutrition and the

most important one is obesity. The incidence of obesity in

Thailand is already significantly higher than in most other

countries in the region, and worse is yet to come. Thai health

experts have recognized the potential magnitude of the

problem. Also one of the most important issue that Thai people

eat a lot of junk food is a shortage of free time and disposable

income. Thai people usually working for long hours, usually for

six days each week, reduces peoples' ability to exercise. A

similar situation applies with Thai children, whose school day is

often drawn out with commuting and after-school tutoring. To

make matters worse, most schools appear to place a low

priority on sport and physical education.

Also there is another reason why Thai kids like to eat junk

food or fast food, which is what we, call Fashion. Many of Thai

kid like to eat it because they think its look cool to eat things

that are now in a trend or we called it old-fashioned. Many

children now however would be embarrassed to be seen with

anything wrapped in a banana leaf or anything that look like a

old-fashioned way so they choose instead products that are

highly-processed, advertised on TV and wrapped in colorful foil

or plastic.

The 2 classic ideas to fight obesity are diet and exercises.

But now I will talk about exercise because as we know that

many Thai people are working in an office or in the building,

which it makes them very unlikely to exercise, so the

government starts using advertising on TV to show people the

way to exercise by having a very interesting and funny story

and situation to make children and adult interested in their

commercial. In this commercial they use a man who is quite fat

and fall in a bad situation, which make him have to lose weight

to surpass that bad situation. I think that this commercial really

effective to Thai people because when this commercial start on-

air everyone around me start talking about it and many of my

friends start acknowledge that there is also the easy way to

lose some weight.

The ways to solve this problem have many ways that

nowadays government and many people in the society try to

make a campaign to convince everyone in the society to eat

more of the good food not just a junk food. And they are a lot of

things that need to be done to get decrease it in Thailand: 1.

Evaluate and support existing anti-obesity programs in Thailand

as well as successful programs in other countries, they got a

little different from an ordinary program because in Brunei they

have a meeting and conference at the same time which

everyone can join the meeting, in the conference they talk

about the problem about obesity and also they will talk about

how to solve and act the right ways. 2. Commissioning further

research into cost-effective means of reducing and treating

obesity. And also there are another easy tips that everyone can

do it, which is diet and exercise which we can introduce or even

force other school to have the lesson to teach their children. So

when the people and government in the society start to help

and convincing other we will surely can decrease the number of

people who is having obesity and everyone will be healthy.

So in conclusion, most Thai people do not care about their

health even it just getting worse and worse when the time past.

They usually care more about other reason more than their

health such as by fashion. We have to warn them and tell them

how bad it can be damage their health when the time past. Its

not just nowadays problem but it can lead to the bigger

problem for our world in the future.
