Graduate Student Prerequisite, Level Restriction and Filled Section Process

Graduate students lacking the prerequisite/s for an MEEM graduate course (5000-level or higher) may
request permission to take this course by following the procedure below. It is beneficial to the student to
complete this process prior to the start of the registration process.

1. Fill out a Special Approval/Restriction waiver form for the requested course/s.
2. Submit form to Associate Chair and Director of Graduate Studies for review (8th floor MEEM).
3. Approved forms can be taken to the Student Services office to be entered into Banner.
4. Student with approved waivers may enroll in course provided seats are available. The waiver is
not for courses that are at capacity. There are no waiting lists for filled sections of graduate
courses.
5. Student should continue to check BanWeb to see if seats become available in the filled
course/section and register for the course should a seat open up.

Graduate students can request to be added to a waiting list for a filled section or a level-restricted MEEM
undergraduate course by following the procedure below. There are no waiting lists for graduate
courses (5000-level or above).

There is no guarantee that a student on the waiting list will be added to the course. Students are
responsible for working with their faculty advisor to enroll in alternate coursework to ensure full-time status
should a seat not become available in the wait-listed course/s.

Available seats will be filled with students from the waiting lists in the order received. Undergraduate
students will have first priority for 4000-level courses during the initial registration period.

1. Contact ME Advising Center to request enrollment in a filled or level-restricted undergraduate course

(4000-level or lower).
2. Student must have met the required perquisites or have a Special Approval/Restriction waiver form
approved by the course coordinator.
3. Academic advisors will record students information on undergraduate course waiting list/s.
4. Graduate students on undergraduate course waiting lists will be added to the course by the
undergraduate academic advisors if applicable. Priority is given to undergraduate students for the initial
registration period.
5. Level restrictions are in effect until after the initial registration period. Graduate students will be added
to open sections of level-restricted undergraduate courses provided the student has met the required
prerequisites or has a Special Approval/Restriction waiver form approved by the course coordinator.
6. Students added to a course from a waiting list will be notified by an undergraduate academic advisor
no later than the Friday before the start of the semester that the course is being offered.
