Humanitarian & civilian activities towards


the Gaza Strip - Monthly Report
June 2010
Following is a report regarding the civilian and
humanitarian activities taken by the Israeli
authorities during the month of June 2010:

Expanding the civilian policy towards the Gaza


Strip
According to the Cabinet’s decision to expend the civilian policy
towards the Gaza Strip, Israel has implemented the following
measures:
• Following the decision of the Government of Israel, the
capacity of the Kerem Shalom crossing was increased by
60% so that 150 truckloads will enter the Gaza Strip via
Kerem Shalom on a daily basis.
• The list of controlled items to the Gaza Strip was
published on July 5th. The list is located in the Prime
Minister's Office website-

• A Joint COGAT - PA team was established in order to


promote projects that are funded and supervised by the
international community.
• A joint team was between COGAT, the MOD Crossing
Authority and the PA was established in order to enhance
the capacity of the existing operational crossings.
• The first group of projects was approved-
o 14 projects were approved prior to the Cabinet’s
decision (9 of them in different implementation
stages).
o 31 projects were approved including 17 USAID
projects.

Main Points
• During the month there was an increase of 12% in the
volume of truckloads entering the Gaza strip. Overall, 3,072
truckloads entered the Gaza Strip through Kerem Shalom
crossing and Karni Conveyor.
• During the month 3,459,762 liters of Heavy Duty Diesel,
4,133 tons of Cooking Gas, 79,500 liters of Gasoline and
566,248 of Diesel fuel were transferred to the Gaza Strip.
• 44 truckloads of containers and equipment for the UNRWA
schools and summer camps project were transferred.
• Increase of 25% in number of Palestinians exiting Gaza.
During the month, 2,421 Palestinians entered Israel, West
Bank and abroad.
• 102 Palestinian businessmen from the Gaza Strip entered
Israel and the West bank.
• Increase of 25% in the movement of international staff
members. During the month 826 international staff members
and representatives of the international community
entered\exited the Gaza Strip.
• 13.5 million dollars were delivered for UNRWA for the
payment of the salaries of its employees in the Gaza Strip.
• The items unloaded from the illegal flotilla were stored in
MOD warehouses and the items will be delivered into the
Gaza Strip by the UN for humanitarian purposes under UN
supervision.
• During the month, several high rank members of the
international community visited Kerem Shalom crossing,
including Senator George Mitchell, Sir Tony Blair the Special
Envoy of the Quartet and a visit of 70 foreign ambassadors
and diplomats.

Projects
• The first group of 31 projects was approved.
• 9 projects are in different implementation stages:
o The transfer of materials for the rehabilitation of
the Al-Quds hospital (funded by France) continued.
o Tel Sultan pump station project – all the
equipment was delivered and the project was
completed.
o Continuation in the transfer of equipment for
UNRWA's "Summer Games".
o Continuation in the delivery of construction
materials for the completion of the UNRWA project-
151 housing units in Khan Younis.
o Approval for the entry of medical equipment by
USAID for 5 hospitals and medical facilities was given
this month as well.
o The transfer of containers to be used as
classrooms in UNRWA's schools continued (during the
month 92 containers were delivered to the Gaza Strip).

Movements and Permits


• During the month, 2,421 Palestinians exited the Gaza Strip
through Erez crossing.
• Overall 2,967 permits were issued for Palestinians to cross
through Erez:
o 1,631permits were issued for medical cases-820
patients and 811 companions, to receive treatment in
Israel, the West Bank and overseas.
o 42 permits were issued for embassy visa
interviews.
o 1 permit was issued for the attendance of
medical seminars.
o 165 permits were issued to travel abroad.
• 102 businessmen (BMC holders) exited the Gaza Strip.

The activity of the International community
• Movement of International staff members- overall 871
movements were recorded through Erez during the month.
• 45 diplomatic delegations entered the Gaza Strip during the
month.
• 9 Palestinians holding foreign nationality left the Gaza Strip.
• During this month 8 donation requests were approved to
the Gaza Strip.
• 351 truckloads were delivered to the Gaza Strip by the
international community.
• 13.5 million dollars were delivered for UNRWA to pay
salaries of its employees in the Gaza Strip.

Humanitarian Infrastructure
• During the month the supply of electricity and water from
Israel was maintained.
• 4,133 tons of Cooking Gas were transferred into the Gaza
strip.
• During the month 3,549,762 liters of Diesel for Heating were
transferred to the Gaza Strip.
• During June, 79,500 liters of Gasoline and 556,248 liters of
Diesel Fuel for transportation were transferred into the Gaza
strip.

Crossing activity
• During the moth 3,072 truckloads entered the Gaza Strip.
• 13 truckloads of Glass entered the Gaza Strip.
• 100 truckloads of Aluminum and Wood Profiles entered the
Gaza strip.
