Dear Madam or Sir,

I am very pleased to recommend Sarah Jacobs for admission into your institution. As a mentor for FIRST
Robotics Competition Team 5203, it has been my pleasure to work with Sarah for the past three years.
Sarah embodies technical excellence, leadership, and Gracious Professionalism, the core values of the
FIRST program.

Sarah has demonstrated technical excellence for our team in multiple specialties, including electrical
design and construction, and strategy and tactics. She has also led our team to compete in the Michigan
state championship after a victory at Kettering regionals as our robot driver. More importantly, Sarah is
a skilled leader, and as the Vice-President for our 2016 – 2017 season, she is highly respected by
mentors and students alike. She is organized, prepared, and dedicated to serving and elevating each
member of her team, from our youngest rookies to our most experienced mentors. Her focus on
improving team communication, both through technology solutions for multiplatform communication,
and by improving meeting structures and agendas, has led us to become more connected, more
effective, and more efficient. As a senior, she has also chosen to coach and train a new generation of
robot drivers, giving up the position as team driver to better prepare her team for the future.

Most importantly, Sarah has made the value of Gracious Professionalism a central tenant of her time on
our team – competing with opponents and giving support to the community in equal measure. She is a
fierce competitor, and she is always prepared to dedicate the time, energy, and enthusiasm that our
team needs to succeed. At the same time, I have seen her apply the same level of energy and intensity
to help our competitors when they encounter technical problems during competition.

Volunteerism is a critical element of Gracious Professionalism, and Sarah has given her time to volunteer
with our school district’s FIRST Tech Challenge team during their rookie year, providing much-needed
experience in both FIRST programs and technical elements, allowing that team to be successful. Sarah
has also volunteered her free time during the FRC season, serving on the field reset team during the
2016 season Troy regional competition.

It is without reservation or hesitation that I recommend Sarah Jacobs to you. She is intelligent,
compassionate, and fiercely driven, three attributes that she combines to enable not only her own
success, but also the success of those around her. I have no doubts that you will be very pleased with
the results of her admission. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at the address or
email below.

Best Regards,

Daniel Confer, P.E.
Mentor, FRC Team 5203
