A Bell Work: AZMerit Writing Review – Poetic devices, writing HW: A Separate
NORMAL DAY formats, how to read instructions to answer the question, review Peace chap 6-7 +
basic writing etiquette (no annotate

quotes, etc.)

Explain how AZMerit week will proceed, daily schedule, etc.

Introduce themes of book: Competition, civilian pressures of war,
friendship, honesty

Tuesday Bell work: Given the following key terms, explain the significance of each one HW: BY FRIDAY
AZMERIT in the first 5 chapters of the novel. (Devon, jumping off the tree branch, war, Read chapters 8-9
competition, friendship) Discuss and fill in the gaps to help jog memory from

before break. Quiz Chp 6-7
TODAY’S Partner work: Create a few “character predictions” charts for Gene,
HOURS ARE 2, Phineas, Lepellier, Brinker, Chet, and Quackenbush. (Note: Some will be
4, 6 completely full while others will only have a few bullet points): Take a FULL
PAGE for each character, draw a division from top to bottom. On the left
column, in bullet points, write descriptions or summarize scenes/events for each
character; on the right, write predictions for how you think each character will
react to that event/character trait/scene.

TODAY’S Sympathy? Admiration? Why and from where? Reactions to Phineas?
