HALLOWEEN HISTORY AND ORIGIN

HALLOWEEN IS ONE OF THE OLDEST HOLIDAYS STILL CELEBRATED TODAY. MILLIONS OF PEOPLE
CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN WITHOUT KNOWING ITS ORIGINS AND MYTHS, THE HISTORY AND FACTS.
IT MAKES IT MORE FASCINATING!

SOME PEOPLE SEE HALLOWEEN AS A TIME FOR FUN, PUTTING ON COSTUMES, TRICK OR
TREATING, AND HAVING PARTIES. OTHERS SEE IT AS A TIME OF SUPERSTITIONS, GHOSTS,
WITCHES, AND EVIL SPIRITS.

HALLOWEEN IS ON OCTOBER 31 ST ,THE LAST DAY OF THE CELTIC CALENDAR. THE CELTS WERE
THE ANCIENTS PEOPLE OF IRELAND.THEY LIVED THERE 2000 YEARS AGO.

THEY REFERRED TO HALLOWEEN AS THE DAY OF “ALL HALLOWS” AND THE CELEBRATION OF
SAMHAIN, WHICH MEANS SUMMER’S END. SAMHAIN WAS A HARVEST FESTIVAL THAT MARKED
THE START OF THE TIME OF THE LITTLE SUN (MOON) THAT MEANS THE WINTER. IN IRELAND THE
WINTER IS VERY DARK, THE DAYS ARE SHORT AND EXTREMELY COLD. THEY HAD BIG SACRED
BONFIRES TO GIVE THANKS TO THE GODS FOR THE HARVEST. THEY ATE AND OFFERED NUTS
AND FRUITS IN GRATITUDE.

THEY BELIEVED THAT ON THAT NIGHT THE VEIL BETWEEN THE WORLDS WAS THINNER, AND THE
SOULS OF THE DEAD ENTERED THE WORLD OF THE LIVING SO THEY DRESSED UP IN COSTUMES
TO GREET AND CONFORT THEM.

ALL THE HALLOWEEN OFFERINGS WERE OF GRATITUDE TO THE EARTH AND TO THE PEOPLE THAT
WERE NO LONGER AMONG THEM.
