FromayoungageIhavealwaysenjoyedschooland
havingapositiveschoolexperienceisaninfluentialand
integral part of why I wanted to become a teacher.
Extracurricularactivitiessuchas,sports,studentcouncil,
yearbook,promcommitteeetc.allowedmetoexpandmy
knowledge outside of the classroom and fostered
friendshipsthatwilllastalifetime.Ihavewantedtobea
teachersinceIwasfourteen;whenIwasingradetwelveI
hadtheopportunitytodoacoopprogramwithalocal
elementary class. Seeing students who were struggling
readers or who were having trouble in math finally
understand, seeing that light bulb click on, when they
have that aha moment, there is nothing more
rewardingthanknowingyouwereasmallpartofthatprocess.Thevalueofeducationwas
instilledinmefromanearlyageasmybothofmyparentsandmyaunt,uncle,grandfatherand
cousinsareallteachersaswell.ThroughtheirexperiencesasteachersIhavebothsawandheard
theupsanddownsofteaching,anddespitebaddaystheyallagreehowrewardingteachingis.
Whentheirstudentsstoptheminthegrocerystoreandthankthemortellthemthattheywere
theirfavoriteteacherbecauseofhowtheyconnectedwiththeirstudents,thatisahumblingand
validatingexperience,somethingIhopetoencountersomeday.

Defining what makes a good teacher depends on what one would consider good.
Everyonehasdifferentviewsandfeelingsaboutwhatconstitutesagoodteaching.Through
variousdifferentvolunteeringendeavors,suchascoachingsports,teachingSundayschool,after
schoolprogramsandworkexperiencespersonally,Ifeelasthoughcreatingasenseofbelonging
andtrustinyourclassroomandalsowithyourstudentsissomethingthatisextremelyimportant
whentalkingaboutgoodteaching.Youhavetohavesometypeofbondwithyourstudentsand
onceyouhaveestablishedtrustandthatbond,teachingthecurriculumshouldbecomenaturally.
However,goodteachinggoesbeyondbeingablesimplyteachthecurriculum.Goodteachingis
alsobeingabletothinkquicklyandresolveproblems;teachersneedtobeapproachable,humble,
andinstillgoodvaluestohelpstudentsinbothschoolandlife.Beingarolemodelforstudents
andallowingthemtoseeyoumakemistakes,bechallengedandpersevereisalsoavitalpartof
goodteaching.

GoalsIpossesaretotravelandinspiremystudentstodothesame.Beengagedand
aware of current worldly events, change perceptions andimplement that into my classroom
practices.WhileIwasinhighschoolIreceivedstudentoftheyeartwiceandalsovolunteerof
yeartwice.IreceivedtheLieutenantGovernorsMedalingradeelevenandalsotheGovernor
Generalsmedalingradetwelve.Ialsohadperfectattendancefromgradeseventogradetwelve
andIreceivedacertificateforthis.Ifeelasthoughthesesuccessesshowmyperseveranceand
ability to perform various different tasks at one time such as, academics, volunteering, and
athletics.

Sportswereanintegralpartofmylifegrowingupandstillaretoday.Iplayedsoccer,
basketball,softball;Icurledinthewintertime,golfedinthesummerandplayedbadmintonyear
round.FromsportsIlearnedtoworkwithothersanddifferentstrategies.Ihadtheamazing
opportunitytocoachajuniorhighgirlsbasketballteamforthelasttwoyearsandalsocoach
summersoccer.Coachingandteachingteachyoualotaboutyourselfandhowyoucanimprove,
youlearnwhatworksforsomedonotworkforotherandyoutrytobeasaccommodatingas
humanlypossibleforthebettermentofthechild.Variousinterestsofmineincludescrapbooking,
piano,andgeology.Geologyismypassion,spendingcountlesshoursonthebeachinsearchof
fossilsattemptingtopiecetogetherbitsofhistoryismyfavoritepasttime.

Asateacher,myhopeistocreateasafelearningenvironmentthatfostersalllearnersto
helpthemachievetheirupmostpotential.Throughbeingawareandaccommodatingtostudents
motivational, behavioural and developmental challenges and also by being attentive to the
differentneedsofallstudents,Ihopetoencouragestudentstogrow,expandandbetheirown
thinkers.Educationisforallstudentsandeachstudentdeservesthesameamountofcare,time
andeducationfromtheteacher.
