GUILT & SHAME RELEASE PROTOCOL

NOTE: This protocol assumes a basic familiarity

with EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques).

Do this protocol on yourself, clients or loved ones. When you do it with others, it is very important
not to ask them for any personal or embarrassing information; reassure them that the process will
work even if they keep all the information to themselves and dont share anything with you.
Sometimes during work with guilt and shame, people have a desire to share the content after it had
been released; if they volunteer it and youre open to hearing it, be my guest; otherwise, allow them
to keep what is private, private.

Preparation
1. Write down a movie title of something you feel guilty or ashamed about; something you
either did or didnt do
2. On a scale of 0 -10, guess how upset youd be if you thought about that event.
3. Write that number at the top of the next page.
4. Pick a colour, a number, a shape, an object or any other metaphor so that someone else
wont be able to guess what it is, e.g.
The blue teddy
The day the wind blew
Uncle Alfred
5. Now fill out the 5 following sheets for this one issue:

circle or delete he/she and him/her as appropriate (referring to yourself)

whether you did, or didnt do something
write the metaphor you chose in the previous step above where it says metaphor in all
5 rounds in the tapping script
write in your name where it says name (Round 2)

6. Go through the script yourself or ask someone to lead you through it, step by step.

NOTE
To get the most out of this process, do not be smart, do not guess, do not follow your intuition,
do not reframe and do not change the statements -
just stay with the words for this simple exercise;
let the tapping do the work!

ROUND 1 HE/SHE; TAP AS IF ITS SOMEONE ELSE
Intensity of guilt/shame (0 10) ________________

ROUND 1 SETUP STATEMENT (HE/SHE)

Even though he/she did/didnt do

[metaphor] ________________________________________________________,

what if he/she did the best he/she could,

and I would like to deeply and completely (say with emphasis) love, accept and forgive him/her
now.

ROUND 1 REMINDER PHRASE

Alternate the following statements on ALL the EFT tapping points for TWO rounds (a, b, a, b, a, b,
etc):

a. He/she did/didnt do [metaphor]_____________ ________________________________

b. What if he/she did the best he/she could at the time (emphasise)?

After 2 complete rounds (tapping through all the points), GUESS how intense you think youll feel if
you were to think about that event again ___________

IF INTENSITY = ZERO
Test it: Tap while vividly imagining that particular event.

If tested OK (your intensity about that specific event remains zero), guess what will happen to the
intensity levels if you were to tell someone else all the details of the incident.

Note: you dont actually have to tell anyone - its just a way to test! If it seems important to you to
tell someone you trust, do it, and tap while you do; there is often great healing in sharing something
that we felt guilty or ashamed about with others; just remember that the person may not respond in
the way that youd like them to, so pick your audience selectively.

If it still tested OK (your intensity when you think remains zero) do a celebration dance and pick the
next thing you feel guilty or ashamed about!

IF INTENSITY IS NOT ZERO

Continue with Round 2 tapping.

psychological reversal etc.

Complete each of these sentences in at least 5 10 different ways; just write down the first thing
that comes to mind:

2. I cannot get over this because
3. I cannot forgive myself for this because
4. I should be punished for this because...
5. I still feel guilty about [metaphor] because
6. It may not be safe to let this go now because
7. If I really forgive myself and let this go now then
8. If I did know what was keeping this stuck Id say it was
9. An important aspect of this that Ive not released yet is
10. Im still too angry at ___________ or because ____________ to let this go
