ELAGSE5W7: Conduct short research projects that use several sources to build knowledge through
investigation of different aspects of a topic
ELAGSE5SL5: Include multimedia components (e.g., graphics, sound) and visual displays in
presentations when appropriate to enhance the development of main ideas or themes.
Brief Description of Learning Experience:
The students will conduct a career research project outside of class and create a presentation using
multimedia to present their findings to the class. We will first complete an interest survey in class so that
the teacher has an idea of what types of careers to include in the research links. We will also navigate and
explore the blog ad a few of the websites together as a class so that the students will become familiar with
the sites and know what types of information they should include. Students will also be given a rubric
containing questions of thought that will lead them to more in depth information that they may not think to
include on their own. At the end of this session students will be shown a complete example of a career
research project and have an idea of what it should look like. Students will use programs such as Microsoft
PowerPoint, Prezi, or other multimedia presentation tool to create their presentation. The presentation will
also be submitted to the teacher for review through an email as well as saving the information to a flash
drive for presentation purposes.
Students will log onto the classroom blog using their login and password. There will be creditable sites
posted to the blog in which the student will research. These links will all apply to some type of career in
which the student may be interested. Students will have their rubric ot follow and will be able to use this
tool to help guide their research. Students will also cite where all information come from. The student will
then create a visual aid to explain their research to the class. These visuals should include images, videos,
audio clips and any other type of resource they find helpful to expressing their findings. When the project is
complete the student will compose an email to the teacher for review. Once the teacher has checked through
their presentation making sure all aspects are there the teacher will respond through email that the student
may go ahead and save the information to their flash drive and that they are ready for presentation. By
having the students complete the project online as well as communicating with the teacher through email
would make this activity a LoTi level 5.

Remembering Understanding Applying Analyzing Evaluating Creating

Student Engagement/Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi):

This lesson would be a LoTi level 5 because the students are creating an original product online using
information that they have found on creditable sources. The students are also making real world
connections to careers that they may work in someday. The students are also communicating back and forth
with their instructor through email. Their original product is also shared with the class.

WEBSITE AND CLASSROOM BLOG CREATION TOOLS
Importance of technology:
The website creation tool is critical to this project in that this is where they will find the links to do their
research as well as a copy of guidelines and the rubric. This project could be done without the website but it
would be much more time consuming and students would be responsible for keeping up with documents
printed out for them or writing the websites down correctly. Websites can tend to be long lines of letters
and numbers that may not be easy for students to copy down or type into the computer. It would make this
project easier by providing the students links that they can click on to access the information. Other
technology used in this project are email, PowerPoint, Prezi, or other presentation software, as well as
knowing how to save information to a flash drive.
Inspiration (optional):
I borrowed this project and altered it from Paulding County Schools. It was a project that they were to
complete during computer lab. I altered it to be an outside of class activity using technology and allowing
students to become more comfortable using the computer and online features. There is no link for this
project.
Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Issues that could arise in this activity are minimal being that I
provide the students with creditable sites. I could protect myself and students by adding a note to the page
where the links are posted directing students to only access these sites for information and not to try
googling the career for themselves To alleviate fears from parents and administrators all links included
within this project will be age appropriate and education based. The students will not be posting their work,
name, or pictures to the site. They will only email them directly to the teacher and save them to a personal
flash drive to bring to class for their presentation.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity. I am trying to give students independence to work
at their own pace in the comfort of their home. I hope by doing this the students will gain valuable
information that may help to guide them to a career that they will enjoy doing for the rest of their lives.
Many times students have no idea that there are jobs they can have doing something they love. After all if
you love your job you never really work a day in your life. I am also hoping that I will learn more about
my students and their interest through this project and can guide my lessons and connect them to things that
my students are interested in.
Other comments about your proposed activity: This is an activity that I would absolutely put into place
in my classroom. There are many standards that can connect to this activity as well as learning your
students interest and your students are able to learn more about themselves. This project is also good to
give students to a goal to strive for. Anything is possible if you work hard!
