A short size road surrounded by a forest leads to the small

white cottage. A YOUNG MAN wearing a smoking dress walks

The mans face is sweating
BACK TO SCENE.

INT. COTTAGE - DAY

Bertha an old woman, black hair, using a handkerchief on her
head is cooking when the bell rings.

Bertha lifts up her head.

The door opens slightly. PATRICK raises his eyebrows looking
surpised.

BERTHA responds to the stranger reluctantly.

BERTHA
(anguished)
No one has visited me for 5 months.
Now a refined man comes up to me to
offer a service or ask for help.
PATRICK
And you seem you can handle
everything by yourself for the rest
of your life? Even if a relative
and close friend is willing to
support?
Bertha starts over again.

BERTHA
(pondering)
The son of James and Lisa-
PATRICK

Whose Lisas mother was-

Hilda. And Hilda is my sister.
Which makes you-

PATRICK
A perseverant nephew.
BERTHA
(excited)
Patrick?? Are you Patrick?

PATRICK
(tired)
The same one, the perseverant
Patrick.

BERTHA
(eager)
The same idiot I used to know! Give
me a hug come on! Youre more than
a distant relative!

The two relatives hugged one another tightly. Bertha laughs

while hugging PATRICK. Then he removes her arms slowly and
his countenance changes into a quiet smile.
They stare at each other smiling.

PATRICK
Am I thinking the same as you?
BERTHA
Undoubtedly!

INT. COTTAGE - DAY

BERTHA and PATRICK are sitting around a wooden table while
they drink.

BERTHA serves the liqueur while speaking.

BERTHA
(quietly spoken)
Some days ago I watched a home
video when you were 14 years old.

PATRICK is being flattered.

BERTHA (CONTD)
On those years, the only
individual who mattered to you was
your mother.

PATRICK smiles.
BERTHA (CONTD)
while I rotted with the marriage to
the man she recommended me.

He gets scared.
BERTHA (CONTD)
(passive)
But I dont blame you.

He nods. BERTHA stares at PATRICK smiling.

BERTHA (CONTD)
(high voice)
Youve always been tall.

PATRICK smiles again.

BERTHA
(explanatory voice)
Since a small child you were
taller than your classmates.
He looks at the cup of liqueur.
PATRICK
I love the taste. Which type of
liquor is this?
BERTHA
(high voice and ignoring
PATRICK)
And despite your height, I remember
your laughter with your peers at
school. But usually, your mood
ended up a mess when you tried to
defend yourself giving out punches
through the air while your
classmates bothered you.

PATRICK drinks unpleasantly.

BERTHA
The same way as your aunt refused
his husband to have public sex in
the kitchen during New Year family
dinners.
PATRICK spat the sip of liqueur. BERTHA looks at the wine
spat and then looks at PATRICK

BERTHA (CONTD)
And you still are a nasty boy.
PATRICK
(positive)
At least Im glad I have grown up
mentally.
BERTHA
Yes. Because we dont know how
small is the rest.

PATRICK disagrees moving his head.

BERTHA (CONTD)
But youll become a man!... Thats
for sure.

BERTHA takes a big sip of liquor.

PATRICK
What? Im already a ma...

BERTHA
No! No. Not until you help me clean
the mountain from a wild creature;
then, just then youll become a
man.

PATRICK
Listen to me! The whole mountain is
not your property! You have to stop
expanding your harvesting! You are
stealing territories which are not
yours!

BERTHA
Do you really thought that if I
stopped expanding my land will had
prevent my fear of being attacked
by a jaguar?

PATRICK
(passive)
Alright, do whatever you want. But
lets clear things out.

BERTHA
Alright, give it a go.
PATRICK
You summon me here, so I help you
harvest and kill the animal, then

my hunter; also, my bodyguard.
Agree?
PATRICK
Just for two weeks. Do you agree?

BERTHA
I dont want you for a complete
year. We will kill one another.
Agree.

PATRICK
(smiling)
Disagree.
BERTHA smiles takes a sip. Patrick takes another sip after
her.

The bell rings. Bertha removes her sight from Patrick.

Bertha opens the door.
A liqueur trader is holding a package of schnapps tied to
his chest.

TRADER
(angry)
This is the last chance to pay me
or Ill--

BERTHA
(haughty)
Or what? Calling the police will
save you from selling illegal
liqueur?

TRADER
(whinning)
And whos my client, huh? I have a
family to feed and a job to
maintain! I need the money!

BERTHA
Its not my problem. I got my
liqueur, thank you. You got a
family. Be grateful! Goodbye!

BERTHA closes the door abruptly.

PATRICK is seated drinking when Bertha heads to the

courtyard and then she sits.

PATRICK stares at Bertha at the same time he looks his cup

of liquor. Bertha looks back with a quiet smile.
The doorbell starts over to ring.
BERTHA
For Gods sake what is happening to
people nowadays! Dont they know
the word privacy!
BERTHA opens the door.

A young woman carrying a cigar on the right hand and a

briefcase lying on the floor on her left, emerges in front
of BERTHA.
She wears an excentric black hat and dress.

BERTHA
Can I help you?
CONSTANZA aims the cigar and bounces the smoke towards
BERTHA.

BERTHA scatters the smoke with her hands.

CONSTANZA
You know who I am and what Im
looking for.

BERTHA
I told you! I still dont have the
money to pay the rent!
CONSTANZA
And Ive told you plenty of times
that therell be no mercy today, as
there is no more chance.
BERTHA
Wow! Im so frightened! And whats
suppose you are gonna do?
CONSTANZA bounces the smoke by the nose holes.
CONSTANZA
(passive)
I will contact my lawyer so that we
can undertake an eviction against
you!

BERTHA
Under what power will you take my
home? Its my land!
CONSTANZA
I have all the power! Im the owner
of this land!... What a lack of
common sense!
BERTHA
You wont stand a chance! Ive
bought all the prosecution office
of the region!
CONSTANZA
HAA! Now you are gonna be a Pablo
Escobar when you dont even have
the money to buy your own toilet
paper.
BERTHA
Listen to me very profundly piece
of...

PATRICK sunddenly interrupted the uproar. He addresses to

BERTHA.
PATRICK
(angry)
Hey! Hey! Stop! Whats happening in
here! Dont behave like animals!
Someone will call the police!
CONSTANZA
Pretty sure Ill call it myself.
PATRICK stares at CONSTANZA while BERTHA keeps staring at
PATRICK.
BERTHA
This thing wants to...
PATRICK
Shut up! Thats not a way to
addressing a young lady!

CONSTANZA
Youve always had a sweet soul
PATRICK. The same one I used to
know since kindergarten.
CONSTANZA smokes again, bounces the smoke and then peruses
PATRICK very carefully.

CONTINUED: (7) 8.

BERTHA looks at CONSTANZA then turns back into PATRICK.

PATRICK
Of course my darling, always the
same one! You too!

BERTHA
What? Do you know each other?
PATRICK
Listen you two! First, lets lower
any unecessary exacerbation when
its not needed.
CONSTANZA
But she started!

BERTHA
Bullshit!
PATRICK
Shut up!.. Let me continue, without
no more interruption!
PATRICK stares at Constanza then looks back to BERTHA and
then back to CONSTANZA.
PATRICK (CONTD)
(angry)
Second, you are not possums who
fight because youre on danger of
extinction! And third, if you want
to solve a conflict talk as women
do, with decency and not as a
dramatic soap opera!
BERTHAs countenance change into a beetle-browed expression.
BERTHA
Do what must be right, PATRICK. If
you want, go with her! Shes your
lover! I wont have any agreement
with a braggart scum!
BERTHA goes inside the house.

PATRICK
Dont listen to her. She has been
stressed for weeks.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: (8) 9.

CONSTANZA
Dont worry about me, thereve been
worse cases.
PATRICK
Lets build an agreement, are you
in favor of looking for a new
solution?
CONSTANZA
Just because Ive known you since
when you were a child, its the last
opportunity to speak up in favor of
your relative.
PATRICK
Alright.

CONSTANZA
But before, have this present.
CONSTANZA crouches and pulls out a lamp from the briefcase.

PATRICK
And whats this for?
CONSTANZA
Its a kerosene lamp. I know your
aunt has been having problems with
the electricity due she doesnt pay
it. This is a gift for your aunts
home when the night is dark and
theres no remedy more than
lighting up with candles.

PATRICK
Wow! So cool! I dont know how to
express my grattitude.
CONSTANZA
Theres no necessity for false
humility. Listen, theres a new
gasoline station two blocks from
here. Itll be open by tomorrow at
6:00 p.m. Go and buy the Kerosene.
But before any move, lets make
sure we get into an agreement.
PATRICK enters the courtyard and saves CONSTANZAS briefcase
inside his luggage which lies on the floor. BERTHA gets
suprised.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: (9) 10.

BERTHA
Wherere you going?

PATRICK
I must leave.
BERTHA
Why?

PATRICK
Well, forgive me to say I think you
have a streak of owing money. Im
so sorry but I cant be your
bodyguard.

BERTHA
Wait a minute! Wait a minute. You
must not leave me alone with these
people. Did you find an agreement?
PATRICK
Yes! Of course. But with your
nature, its an impossible deal to
accomplish!
BERTHA
You are my nephew but you dont
know me enough!
PATRICK
Oh! More than you think!

BERTHA
Tell me!
PATRICK
The deal will be: we take out the
yucca and plane tree which is
already grown and on a 2 month
deadline we can profit from your
harvesting and pay the debt you
owe. Anyway, we should continue
harvesting.

BERTHA
So you mean , well grow the yucca
and plane-tree I use for my meals,
to sell it to my lazy farming
neighbors?

PATRICK
Yes. Its the most logical thing
you should have done before.

BERTHA
On exhange for what?
PATRICK
On exchange that youll promise me
to continue paying the rent of
CONSTANZAs home after theres no
more reckoning.
BERTHA
Impossible! And Im a retired
woman, I dont want nothing to do
with business!
PATRICK
I told you! And I forgot one
point. The income you couldve won
also should have been distributed
to his nephew.
BERTHA
Theres no need!

BERTHA pulls out her wallet and gives PATRICK a roll of

money.
BERTHA
And dont forget killing the beast.

PATRICK
Lets clean all the mess youve
done.

BERTHA
No! You did this!
PATRICK
What?

BERTHA
You conspired against me! You and
your lover!
PATRICK
No! Let me explain!
BERTHA stands up and grabs the container massively and
spills all the Kerosene into PATRICKs body. PATRICK coughs.
