Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus are at high risk for experiencing
depression related to the therapies they must be endured. Progressive muscle
relaxation is one of non-pharmacological treatment for depression management.
The aim of this study was to explain the effect of progressive muscle relaxation
related to the level of depression for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This
study was used Quasi-experimental study design with pre-test and post-test. 22
respondents were the total sample for this study and consisting 11 control group
11 intervention group. Data was analyzed using Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test
for examining pre-test on control group and obtained for p value = 1,000
(p>0,05) then the intervention group obtained p value = 0,01 (p>0,05). Mann-
Whitney U Test was used for examining the post-test and obtained p=0,151
(p>0,05) for control group and p=0,365 (p>0,05) for intervention group. The
conclusion for this study: there is no different between control group and
intervention group.
