Magneto-rheological Elastomer (MRE)

MRE is basically elastomer with micro-sized iron particles embedded

The embedded iron particles align themselves along the direction of the

magnetic field

The MREs elastic modulus of stiffness can be varied depending on the

magnetic field strength

MRE-based base isolation system (Smart Base Isolation)

In the MRE- based base isolation system, the controllable MR

elastomer allows to adapt to various loading conditions, effectively

reducing the excessive structural vibrations.

Dynamic model of MRE

A magneto-rheological elastomer component is commonly subjected to

dynamic loading in engineering applications.

Its mechanical properties, including shear modulus and damping ratio,

are greatly dependent on the amplitude and frequency of the dynamic

loading.

introduction :: MRE base isolation :: MRE model :: MRE model validation :: numerical simulation :: conclusions

An experimental test has been carried out to identify a dynamic

characteristic of MRE

The dynamic model of MRE is established for shear deformation.

An experiment test and results of dynamic model of MRE are compared

These results demonstrate that the dynamic model of MRE can be

effectively used for evaluation of MRE based system
