THIS IS GOLD

Yes, this is the first number of the GOLD Graffiti Magazine !!!

Being the first, it is pretty simple. I want just to see people’s reactions and to hear their comments and
suggestions, when there appears something new.

I really want to improve this magazine in different ways, but i can’t do it alone! I need your help!
So, please, feel free to write down your impressions.
Send me notices and/or comments at my one and only deviantArt profile http://takethef.deviantart.com/
or at GOLD Graffiti blog http://goldgraffiti.blogspot.com/. You can also use the official Yahoo! ID and e-mail adress
takethef.gold@yahoo.com .

OK! Now, let’s talk about the magazine.

As you can see, i customized a special logo for the header, and i’m very happy with it.
For this number i did’n published a graffiti on the first page because, you know, i don’t know which to
choose! But i will put one there next month, for sure!
There are few subjects on the cover (and in the whole magazine, too) because, again, i need to say that this
is the first number, and i didn’t know, blah, blah... .
- the INTERVIEW is very basic, ten questions for a graff artist, every month.
- the FAVOURITE is a piece/sketch that i like and is coming from a ’deviant’.
- GRAFF OF THE MONTH is chosen by you by voting one of ten pieces/sketches selected by myself.
The best graff of the current month will be announced, naturally, in the next month. Maybe i’ll put it on
the cover!
- RISING is the category, where i will support the begginer’s skills, the new boys and girls in this modern
kind of art. Not a big thing yet, but i hope to develop this subject and to give more attention to the
newcomers. They are the future!
- GIVE ME FIVE ! – eh, using a well-known cliche... . Five drawings, one artist.
- BY takethef – Hey! This is my magazine!... . My best piece in the current month.
- There will be more categories, in the next numbers, related to different sorts of events, etc..

THE FAVOURITE
’Is water really wet’ by Tr0ks

Artist's Comments :
’just played with colors and shapes that came to my mind..’

...And the result is an amazing artwork !!

The shapes and the chosen colours, combined with a
unique pattern, reveal Tr0ks’s original style in making
this type of abstract graffiti.

INTERVIEW
Setik01

1. For those who don't know yet: tell us who are you and where are you from.

I am Setik01 from The Netherlands. I live in Hoofddorp, that's close to Amsterdam. My crew is
called Static Dynamic Crew, and I also write FF (Fresh Force) with my friend 'Gaos'

2. What means "Setik" ? Is there a special meaning or is a fictional name/nickname?

There's no meaning behind my name. I got this name by writing down all the letters of the alphabet
on a paper, choosing the letters I like, and then mixing them up. That's how this name came out.

3. When did you started doing graffiti artworks as a beginner and when did you turned pro?

I started doing graffiti 6 years ago. First I only did tagging and sketching, but it wasn't that serious.
Later on I started doing pieces and until now that's still what I do. I never turned 'pro' - I still have to learn
a lot and I don't make a living out of graffiti.
7

4. How much time takes you to do a sketch? What about a piece on a wall?

A sketch takes me about 1 hour, maybe a little longer if I make the sketch full color. On the wall I
usually need about 3-4 hours to paint my piece. When I paint alone I do it faster. But when I paint with
other friends it always takes longer because you also chat etc.

5. Once and for all: what markers, pencils and spraycans do you use to bring life in your astonishing artworks?

I use Touch markers / On The Run markers and Uni Posca paint markers. MTN 94, Belton Molotow
and Montana Gold are my favorite spraycan brands.

6. Tell us about your crew(s) and your best friends.

My crew started as a 4-man group: my friends 'Basek' and 'Joke', my cousin 'Kreas' and I.Later
on more writers came into the crew because we were all friends and we all knew each other. All these
members live in another part of The Netherlands except for me, so that's why I also write FF with my
friend Gaos because he lives in my city.
8

7. What is your motivation in doing graffiti? Is there any connection with the music you listen to, your
family or your education?

My motivation for graffiti is to keep improving my styles and techniques. I do legal graffiti
because I want to focus on my pieces. It's cool to see the progress you made after a longer period of time.
Sometimes people tell me that my sketches are all the same but when I look at my sketches from 1 year
ago I think they sure changed. Sometimes I change only small bits and parts of my piece but that's just an
attempt to make my previous sketch better.

8. What would you have done if you hadn't been started drawing graffiti? (and hadn't been interested in
this type of modern art?)

If I did not start doing graffiti I could have been breakdancing now. I already did that before I got
into graffiti but I stopped doing that because I wanted to focus more on graffiti.

9. Tell us who are your favourite graffiti artist? (their deviantArt nickname, if they have a profile there)

My most favorite graffiti artists are the ones who came up with new techniques and styles,
different from the original (basic) way of doing graffiti. For example: Askew, Revok, Atom, Delta (from
Amsterdam), Can2, Does/Dare and the rest of LL, Rime, MadC, Daim, and a lot of other (less-known)
writers who have a style with flowing letters that are still 'kind of' readable.

Some writers on dA: Peak / Sektr / Seizou / StenDUC / Shyne1 / writerfunk / MerlynOne / desan21 for
example.

10. What is your opinion about the culture in which

we are involved?

About the graffiti culture: I cannot

really call this a 'culture' because so many

different people are involved. We all do graffiti

for different kinds of reasons.

Some go out and paint trains only, others do

a lot of legal graffiti and that's another approach.

As some people say it used to be a Hiphop-thing

but that's not anymore I guess, and I think there's

nothing wrong with that. I do listen to Hiphop

music but I don't see graffiti as an element of

hiphop.

In Amsterdam graffiti started out of the

punk-movement for example.

GRAFF OF THE MONTH

’woo’ by 1jazzy1

For this number, I’ve chosen it. So, there we go!

It’s ’woo’ by 1jazzy1 (you can find it @ http://1jazzy1.deviantart.com/)

I really like the 3d effect and the ’cross’ in the background ( like a Christmas present box :P ).
Great sketch, in a warm and yellow ambiental light.

RISING
ruby604

New people on the graffiti scene!

ruby604’s style is pretty simple but that proves once more that simple is the best, not only good.
Letters are readable, coloured either in freestyle or with some patterns (circles, squares, lines). I like many of
her sketches, and i think she deserves a little support. I invited her to be member in GOLD Graffiti project, and
she has accepted. I’ve already posted some of her artworks on the gallery blog.
13

Look at this! I love this sketch!

From this point on, she will have to work a lot to improve her style, now when she’s a part of the
’Stream’.
Good luck!

BACK 01dec09

I like this word, even if i have some ’design problems’ with the ’B’.

The whole makeup time for this sketch took about 1 hour. The colouring was fast, because i’ve had the
pattern from an old and unpublished sketch. Originality came with those arrows, a ’last-minute’ modification.

About the outline, all i’ve wanted was to bring the word in front not by using the contrasting colour
(yellow), and i thought that pink would do this job very well.
