RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE REPORT OF GOVERNANCE COMMIUEE

WHEREAS: The Governance Committee of the Board of Trustees was tasked with
researching and reviewing the University’s employment practices, trends,
and affirmative action data, particularly as they relate to African-American
students and African-American employees at Kean; and

WHEREAS: The Governance Committee undertook a thorough and comprehensive
statistical review of these areas over a four-month period; and

WHEREAS: The Governance Committee’s work involved researching and reviewing
the University’s enrollment patterns, financial aid, student leadership,
security and graduation statistics related to African-American students at
Kean; and

WHEREAS: The Committee’s review also included employment practices, policies,
trends and affirmative action data related to African-American employees
at Kean; and

WHEREAS: The Governance Committee concludes that Kean University’s processes
and results with respect to African-American students and employees are
both comprehensive and equitable; and

WHEREAS: The Governance Committee further concludes that Kean University’s
processes related to enrollment, education, safety and employment do
not promote bias or other arbitrary and discriminatory practices; and

WHEREAS: The Governance Committee further concludes that data over the last
decade demonstrates that Kean’s treatment of African-Americans is
equitable; and

WHEREAS: The Governance Committee further concludes Kean has one of the most
diverse student bodies and workforces among its peer state institutions;
and

WHEREAS: The Governance Committee also concludes that Kean University embraces
proper protocols to ensure the safety of its student body, its employees
and visitors to the campus community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED: That the Kean University Board of Trustees commends the Governance
Committee for its thorough and comprehensive statistical review of
African-American participation and performance at Kean University; and
be it further

RESOLVED: That the Kean University Board of Trustees directs the Committee,
through the University, to provide the report to all interested parties and
the public; and be it further

RESOLVED: The Board will provide this report and related materials to former New
Jersey Supreme Court Justice John E. Wallace, Jr. for review; and be it
further

RESOLVED: That the Board of Trustees hereby authorizes the expenditure to Justice
Wallace of an amount not to exceed $15,000 for the purposes of this
review.
