Activity Objective #1:

Students will accurately perform warm up exercises, exhibiting appropriate vocal tone and
technique.

Process
To begin, T will introduce the Action Color Block exercise.
The exercise will be used with a metronome, or with T snapping the
counts out.
T will review what the actions are with Ss before taking off on the warm up.
First, we will read the boxes normally, L to R, Top to Bottom.
Next, the boxes can be read in a different order (ex. Top to Bottom, R to L)
If students are successful in the original exercise, T will move into the
next Color Block exercise
T will introduce the Rhythm Color Block exercise.
The exercise will be used with a metronome, or with T snapping the
counts out.
T will review what the rhythms are with Ss before taking off on the warm up.
First, we will read the boxes normally, L to R, Top to Bottom.
Next, the boxes can be read in a different order (ex. Top to Bottom, R to L)
If students are successful in the original exercise, T will move into the
next exercise
T will then move to the third exercise (eighth notes)
T will focus the exercises on consistent and matching tone, as well as the vowel
structure created by students.
If students accurately perform the rhythms, notes, and sing with
appropriate vowel shape and tone, T will move on to the next exercise.
T will then move to the fourth exercise (intervals)
Ss will sing through the exercise on solfege syllables first, to aid in their accuracy
of note matching
T will focus the exercises on note accuracy and audiation
If students accurately perform the notes, and sing with appropriate vowel
shape and tone, T will move on to the next exercise.
T will move to the last exercise with a major scale
Ss will sing Do-Do-Re-Do-Do-Re-Mi-Re-Do, etc.
T will ask a student to select one solfege syllable to remove from the
exercise
Ss will then perform the exercise, audiating this tone instead of
singing it.
If students accurately perform the rhythms, notes, and sing with
appropriate vowel shape and tone, T will complete the lesson

Assessment:
1. Note struggles that students may have faced with rhythms, notes, or vowels.
2. Assess students ability to match tone with the piano and those around them
3. Observe students movement and actions that take place in the first exercise.
