CEO AWARDEE 2016 National Quality

Naga City Mayor John G. Bongat is this years re-
cipient of the Communication Excellence in Organiza-
tions (CEO) Excel Awards given by the International
Association of Business Communicators of the Philip-
pines (IABC). According to Kane Errole Chua, IABC
chair, with the award, Bongat now joins a select group
of outstanding national and industry leaders who epit-
omize management competence and excellence in

Corn Achievers Award
Naga City, represented by Vice Mayor Nelson Lega-
cion received the Outstanding City Award given during
the 2016 National Quality Corn Achievers Award in Ko-
ronadal City. He was joined by Councilor Jun Lavadia,
agriculture committee chairman, Mrs. Edna Bongalonta,
Outstanding City Agriculturist, Benedicto Heraldo, Out-
standing Agricultural Extension Worker and Hall of Fame
Awardee, and Engr. Menandro Calingacion, Outstanding

DOT Bicol leads VAW-free

community drive
LEGAZPI CITY -- The
Department of Tourism
(DOT) in Bicol will lead this
year's 18-day campaign to
end violence against women
(VAW) from November 25
to December 12, 2016 to
strengthen the anti-VAW
advocacy by enjoining new
audiences to join the cause
and be an instrument to
spread awareness on VAW.
DOT Bicol regional direc-
tor Maria Ravanilla said the
anti-VAW drive will evolve
on the campaign "Orange
Your Icon" alongside with

the promotion of national and
local tourism sites and land-
marks as well as in solidarity
with United Nations UNiTE
to End VAW campaign.
"The idea is to attract the
public curiosity on why ma-
jor landmarks or icons nation-
wide are colored orangea
bright and optimistic color
which represents hope, there-
by providing opportunities
for advocates to explain the
Anti-VAW advocacy," Rava-
nilla explained.
For Bicol, according to the
DOT director, the Cagsawa
Ruins in Daraga town will
showcase the "Orange Your
Icon" campaign by putting
orange lights around the land-
mark/icon and light them up
in the evening to draw atten-
tion to the need of fostering
VAW-free communities.
She added that it will be
decorated and colored orange
with the use of ags, streamers
or banners, spotlights at night,

Livelihood alternative for Lake

Buhi sh cage owners eyed

BUHI, Camarines Sur
The massive sh kill in-
cident in Lake Buhi last
October has prompted the
municipal government here
to declare a state of calam-
ity in order to come out with
quick response fund to help
alleviate the plight of af-
fected communities and put
into motion some mitigating
measures.
Among the lakeside areas
affected by the sh kill are
barangays Tambo, Cabatuan,
Salvacion, Ibayugan, Iraya
and Ipil, all in Buhi town with
a total of 239 shcage opera-
tors directly hit by the sh kill
that blew away some P50M in
capital and investments.
The incident has affected
not only the sh cage opera-
tors and the community but
also the local government
unit whose foregone revenues
from taxes paid by investors
and operators could have been
used for the towns additional
