Highlights from class

Mr. Browder

In Analytic Geometry the

students are

applying the

standards MGSE9-

12.G.C.1, MGSE9-

12.G.C.2, MGSE9-

12.G.C.3, MGSE9-

12.G.C.4, and

Upcoming Projects

and Tests

Geometry

Tests:

3/22 – Intersecting Secants and

Tangents

MGSE9-12.G.C.5.

Students understand

and apply theorems

about circles. Identifying and

point outside a given circle to

the circle. Find arc lengths and

areas of sectors of circles.

Students derive using

similarity the fact that the

length of the arc intercepted by

an angle is proportional to the

radius, and define the radian

measure of the angle as the

constant of proportionality;

derive the formula for the area

of a sector. In Advanced

3/24 – Intersecting Chord

Theorem

Algebra

Tests:

3/21 – Characteristics of

Polynomial Functions

describing relationships among

inscribed angles, radii, chords,

tangents, and secants. Including

the relationship between central,

inscribed, and circumscribed

angles; inscribed angles on a

diameter are right angles; the

radius of a circle is perpendicular

to the tangent where the radius

intersects the circle. Students

construct the inscribed and

circumscribed circles of a

triangle, and prove properties of

angles for a quadrilateral

inscribed in a circle. Students

construct a tangent line from a

Algebra the students are

applying the standards

12.N.CN.9. Students interpret

expressions that represent a

quantity in terms of its context.

Interpret parts of an expression,

such as terms, factors, and

coefficients, in context. Given

situations which utilize

formulas or expressions with

multiple terms and/or factors,

interpret the meaning of

Projects:

3/12 - 3/30 – Report over “If

you could ask the two richest

men in the world anything,

what would it be?”

individual terms or factors.

Students identify zeros of

polynomials when suitable

factorizations are available, and

use the zeros to construct a rough

graph of the function defined by

the polynomial. Use the

Fundamental Theorem of

Algebra to find all roots of a

polynomial equation.

Assignment Information

Advanced Algebra and Analytic Geometry

Analytic Geometry had seven

assignments throughout the

month. The first assignment was

from 3/2 to 3/8 and it was called

Arc Measure. On 3/9 to 3/14

students were given intersecting

chord theorem assignment.

Language of circles was given on

3/15. 3/15 to 3/17 was

intersecting secants and tangents.

Central angle theorem was given

3/20 to 3/22. Inscribed angle

theorem was given 3/23 and

lasted till 3/27. The last

assignment called interior angle

theorem was given 3/28 and

lasted till 3/30. Advanced

Algebra had five assignments

over the month of March. The

first assignment called review of

polynomial operations was given

3/3 and lasted till 3/10. Factoring

patterns was given on 3/13 to

3/21. Dividing polynomials was

the third assignment and was

given on 3/22 to 3/24. Graphing

polynomial functions was given

3/27and lasted till 3/29. The last

assignment was called

fundamental theorem of algebra

and given on 3/30 to 3/31.
