Governor Lawrence J. Hogan Jr.

100 State Circle
Annapolis, MD 21401

Dear Governor Hogan:

We write today to thank you and the Maryland Aviation Administration (MAA) for agreeing to
speak with Marylands representatives on the board of the Metropolitan Washington Airports
Authority (MWAA) regarding the increase in airplane noise over Montgomery County.

The constituents we represent in District 16 have been subjected to a significant increase in

airplane noise from commercial airliners flying into and out of Ronald Reagan National Airport
(DCA) in the past 18 months. The increase in noise is due to flight path changes implemented
by the Federal Aviation Admiration in late 2015 as part of their NextGen software
implementation, which is intended to adjust flight paths to achieve increased efficiency and fuel
savings. While well intentioned, these changes have had a detrimental impact on the
communities in western Montgomery County where flight paths that were formerly dispersed
have now been concentrated over certain communities, resulting in constant noise that negatively
affects their quality of life.

We thank you and you administration for taking action on this issue, and we ask that you keep
this problem in mind in your conversations with regional and federal officials.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Susan C. Lee C. William Frick Ariana Kelly Marc Korman
