UNIT/CHAPTER OBJECTIVE/GENERALIZATION/BIG IDEA:


This lesson plan is part of a unit plan on shapes

LESSON OBJECTIVE:
The student will be able to pick out shapes and identify the accompanying name with 100% accuracy.
The goal is to get students to be able to name the different shapes and draw them with 100% accuracy.

STANDARDS ADDRESSED:
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.2.G.A.1 Recognize and draw shapes having specified attributes, such as a given
number of angles or a given number of equal faces.1 Identify triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, and
cubes.

ISTE Standard: Students use critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects, solve problems, and
make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources.

MATERIALS:
Internet access (websites, games, presentation)
Computer
Pencil
Paper

BACKGROUND and RATIONALE:


The key concept for this lesson is identification of shapes.
This lesson builds off of the previous lesson on triangles.
I will build on this lesson with shapes that have even more sides.
I will modify my lesson to meet the needs of diverse learners.

PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE:


Introduction: I will start the lesson by giving them a quiz to see what they already know about shapes. Then we
will use the computer to play games and learn about the different shapes. Finally, we will end it with some
group participation with problems displayed on the overhead.
Procedures: Provide a sequential (step by step) description of the procedures and activities for the lesson.
Distribute quizzes for review (30 minutes)
Learning games while I review quizzes (20 minutes)
Lesson on overhead to fully learn concept (30 minutes)
Interactive activity on the iPads (25 minutes)
Describe how you will differentiate for students with different learning needs or backgrounds.
If technology is being used, identify a rotation plan and supporting activities.
Closure: I will close the lesson by letting the students play an interactive learning activity on the iPads.
