Around the World - EVALUATION:
AIMS
- exploring the globe
Children are familiar with the fact that there are continents and that they differ.
They show an extended interest in exploring the continents – first through
animals living there, significant landmarks and then by name.
- understanding what does it mean to travel
Children understood that people travel prior to this topic. While we worked on
the topic children showed understanding as to what it means to travel – they
recognized that they travel each day to get to kindergarten and back but also
that travelling can also be longer. They began connecting means of
transportation with types of travelling
- recognizing some of the famous landmarks
Children showed a great interest in exploring landmarks. It encouraged them to
ask more questions and to explore more independently. At the end of the topic
they recognize the landmarks we explored and connect them with the rest of
the facts they discovered about the continents.
Around the World - EVALUATION:
OBJECTIVES:
- discovering the continents and what makes them special
Children were primarily interested in the facts about continents (e.g. which animals live
there, what colours do they have on the map, how distant are they from us) and only
then in continent names.
- exploring maps and distance correlation
The topic helped us explore and comprehend how distance can vary on the ratio
presented on the map and position of the observer. It encouraged children to measure
around the classroom but also to use descriptive language when navigating on the
map (e.g. above, under, to the side, on the left, nth on the right...)
- exploring textures and creating with different techniques
Children showed a great interest in textures and hands on exploring. They showed great
excitement and in general positive attitude towards new materials and tasks.
- strengthening understanding of connection between means of transportation and
travelling
Children now connect the means of transportation with the means of travelling. They also
began taking into account their own experiences with travelling as well as connect the
means of transportation with the distance and objects encountered en route (eg.
oceans, high mountains...)
