My artist for this project is Mary Cassatt. I chose to base my piece off of her painting

Child In A Straw Hat. Cassatts style is contemporary lifestyle focusing on mothers

and children. This piece specifically is a beautiful up-close painting of a girl in a large

straw hat. She keeps it simple in a way that it still is very realistic.

For me, I wanted to keep it very simple, but add a touch that made it look like the cat

character was looking at its owner very close to the face. I love the focus of that cat in the

hat (ha) with a focus on the hat and bow. I think in the final painting I need to make an

effort to focus on the small details of the cat, and where it is sitting on.
