1. What is the topic of your lesson?

Inferencing from clues in a text while becoming a more culturally aware
classmate.

2. Why are you teaching this lesson? What is your rationale for teaching it?
I am teaching this lesson because inferencing is one of the reading
comprehension strategies and because this tied well with teaching students to be
more culturally aware. Hopefully this book will leave students to think about their
role as students and friends in school and how important that role is.

3. What is your Teaching Behavior Focus? Why did you choose this?
I chose the teaching behavior focus to be wait time because I have trouble
leaving time for students to think before answering a question.

4. Why did you design your instruction in this lesson the way that you did? Why did
you choose this way of teaching the lesson (e.g., Was the idea from a methods
course? From your mentor teacher? Another source?)
I designed my instruction in this way so that we could all work together rather
than leaving students to work independently as the book needs discussion with it,
and because it is helpful to hear other students thought processes when
inferencing.

5. As you are thinking through this lesson, what do you believe will be the most
challenging part of this lesson for you when you teach it? Why?
I think the most challenging part of this lesson will be keeping students engaged
because it is more discussion based than independent work. Another part will be
remembering to ask different students to make sure everybody takes part, rather
than letting a few students take over the discussion.

6. How will you know if your learning outcomes for the students are met
successfully?
My main form of assessing student outcomes is through observation. I will be
able to tell what students understand and what students do not by discussions
during the lesson and walking around the classroom as they work on their
summaries.
7. How will your classroom management support the learning outcomes?
Class discussion supports the learning outcome and it is helpful for students to
work together when becoming better readers. In fifth grade students know how to
read they just need to learn and practice new strategies of comprehension so this
will be helpful for all students.
8. List 1-3 areas which you would like for your observer to pay particular attention.
Why do you want your observer to focus on these areas?
I want my observer to focus on having productive questions for students and to
promote effective discussions for all students. I also want to watch for getting all
students of the class involved rather than only focusing on the students that keep
raising their hands right away.
9. Is there anything else you would like your observer to know before the
observation?
