About Speak Out 2017 “Humanity and Me”

The Disability Action Hall has held a public event to help celebrate
disability pride and culture. This year, Friday, June 2nd will be our 19th
celebration. Everyone is welcome to attend the event. The day is about
celebrating who we are as a community. We typically have speeches,
food, music, art, and this year we are very excited our theme is a focus
on human rights.

We are partnering up with the Lougheed House to help celebrate our past,
honour the present and create a hopeful future for the rights of Albertans with
disabilities. We are inviting human rights groups, community organizations and
artists to share their views, history and storytelling about disability and human
rights in Alberta.

We hope to display significant pieces of our past and honour the work of disabled
activists and artists who have helped further the progress of human rights.

We will have a pop up gallery, films, art making and if the weather cooperates
with us, we plan a community celebration on the lawn of the historical Lougheed
House.
