PROPOSAL FOR WORKFORCE AND VOCATIONAL SKILL DEVELOPMENT

PROGRAM (WVSDP): CAPENTRY TECHNICIAN MODULE

Yasmin Global Furniture Development limited is pleased to offer its signature Workforce
and Vocational Skill Development Program (WVSDP) to Niger State Government. The
Yasmin WVSDP, specialization in "Carpentry Technician", was designed according to a
general approach which takes into account both training needs, realities of the carpentry
profession, objectives as well as strategies to help Niger state government to mainstream
acquisition of technical skills and create youth employment.

The WVSDP offers, unemployed young people across the state, the opportunity to learn,
from well expert carpenters with verse industry experience in the construction industry
the theoretical and practical aspects of carpentry work; address deficiencies in skilled
carpenters and trained technicians, encourage participants to explore career options in
building construction and interior decoration. And also equip apprentice with sufficient
knowledge and work tools to start a business thereby creating further employment.

Program Benefits, Career and Employment Opportunities

Carpenters work on a wide variety of tasks associated with building and repairing whole, or
parts of, buildings and other structures made of wood, wood substitutes, steel and other
materials. Working in all areas of both the private and commercial construction industries, as
well as in maintenance and renovations, carpenters crib basements, build house
frameworks, walls, roofs and exterior finishes, and install doors, windows, flooring, cabinets,
stairs, handrails, panelling, moulding and ceiling tiles. They are also responsible for building
concrete forms, scaffolding, bridges, trestles, tunnels, shelters, towers and other structures.

Vocational skill development will augment current government efforts to diversify the Nigeria
economy and arrest the growing menace of youth unemployment. It was noted that the
Carpentry sector needs specialists who perfectly masters the practice. Especially, the
sector is experiencing rapid progress of machines technology and production plants for
which technical training is necessary so as to urgently address the growing needs in the
area.

A participant who has completed the WVSDP Carpentry Technician can seek entry level
employment on a construction site in a variety of positions. Such graduates can be
employed by residential, commercial, or industrial construction sectors. Graduates can also
proceed to establish carpentry business providing services to individuals and organizations.

Create gainful employment and income generation opportunities for the youths of

spread awareness of value of vocational technical skills acquisition across the state
Master the nature of wood, the use of hand tools, stationary machines and portable
machines;
Know and master the execution of the various forms of assembly used in carpentry
structures/elements ;
Plan and control the progress of works, verify and assess the output of their work and
apply quality assurance control systems;
Apply the drawings provided by customers, and drawings of their own designing in
different carpentry works;
Ensure the maintenance of machines and tools and carry out minor repairs;
Carry out calculations of prices, and manage accounts of a workshop;
Carry out activities related to marketing through advertising, sales, and exhibitions of
products;
Master entrepreneurial skills ;
understand the construction in general and the specific context of the function of a
Carpentry Technician.

Target Group

The target group of the WVSDP program is of youths (Aged under 35yrs). Admission level is
Secondary School (JSSC or SSCE).

Program Schedule

The training program will be majorly hands-on practical activities that will span total duration
of four (4) weeks period between hours 9.00am to 4.00pm four times every week.

This unique capacity building program has been cost effectively priced at N75, 000.00
(Seventy-Five Thousand Naira only) per participant, this covers all fees, costs for training,
practical workshop session, tools handling, course materials, and certificates. In addition,
participants will be provided with work tools (Screwing machine, hammer) with which they
can get started, putting to action all that will be learnt. Fee is expected to be paid in full
before commencement of training.
