This article highlights the importance of creating a relationship between the patient and
the doctor. It goes into details about the benefits of having this relationship and how the patient
will respond to medical treatment better if a bond is formed between them and the physician. It
explains ways to improve the relationship and what techniques can be used to form a relationship
that is effective.
This information found on the National Center for Biotechnology Information site and
originally received from the University of Michigan Medical Center is a credible source that I
found helpful while writing my Rogerian letter. The authors of the article are Susan Dorr Goold
and Mack Lipkin, Jr., which are both medical doctors and presented this information at the
conference, SGIM Symposium on Managed Care in Washington, D.C.
The feelings described by the patients in this article were effective to use in my letter, for
they further explained what I was trying to communicate with my uncle. This gave my paper
common ground and allowed for the ideas shared by a lot of patients to be expressed. I think this
furthered my paper by presenting information on how patients can feel in situations while trying
to build a relationship with their physicians.

Tips on Building Doctor/Patient Relations described the methods that can be used by
doctors to approach the situation of building a relationship with their patients. It promoted
specific techniques that could be used in the doctors office to better the relationship.
This article developed by the American Academy of Family Physicians Division of
Medical Education and published by Family Medicine Interest Group was a source that I found
beneficial in my letter. The handout was produced by a notable group as a guide to help
physicians form a better bond with their patients.
By listing out detailed instructions on how to build a relationship between the patient, it
allowed me to determine exactly what needed to be done and performed by the doctor in order to
establish a successful relationship between the physician and the patient. With the techniques
listed out, I was able to mention these in my letter to my uncle on how my doctor effectively
communicates with me.

In the article Patients and Doctors The Evolution of a Relationship it described how
the medical practice has shifted over the years and it hasnt been up until recently that an
importance for a relationship between the doctor and the patient has been stressed. The clinical
research described in this article explains the benefits of forming this bond and demonstrates the
benefits that come from having this effective relationship.
This article produced by The New England Journal of Medicine and written by Robert D.
Truog, M. D. is a piece of text I found useful while writing my Rogerian letter. Dr. Truog
explained the importance of the relationship formed in news way that other articles did not.

This article overall helped me in the letter by providing me factual based information on
how having a partnership with ones physician can help drastically in determining a medical
treatment that will aid that specific person. By specializing the health care directly to that person,
it allows for a better turnout as opposed to not. All in all, this information allowed me to further
convince my uncle of the importance of being active with the doctor and establishing a
partnership for the best results.
