What Makes Ice Melts Faster ?

Purpose

My purpose of this experiment is to

determine what makes ice melts
faster, salt or sugar.
Hypothesis

If the salt melt faster in the warm water than the cold
water. Then the ice might melt faster because of the warm
water . I say this because ice and warm water melt fast.
Background/Research

When things freeze or become solid from a liquid state, it

usually forms a crystal structure like a snowflake. If you
add water salt or sugar it makes it harder for it to melt
the water plus the added salt or sugar to melt the ice .Also
when ice gets stuck to the side walk they usually use salt
to get the ice off the sidewalk. They usually do this
because contact with salt and ice makes more water so the
ice melts faster.
Materials

.3 Identical plastic starbuck cup .water(,warm, cold)

.Ice cubes( square ice cubes)

.salts tsp

.sugar tsp

.Timer or clock

.labeled sugar,salt,control

.Lab notebook
Pursecoures

1. Gather your materials

2. 3 cups
3. fill each cup with water half a cup
4. Label one cup with control then the other
salt then the other sugar
5. place an ice cube in each cup
6. wait until the ice melts and time each cup

Conclusion

In conclusion my hypothesis was right the salt melt faster

with the warm water. Also the cold water showed more time for
the ice to melt which was very surprising because I thought
that the salt was going to melt faster in the cold water
because they usually use salt to take off the ice when It is
snowing. Also when It is snowing It is very cold outside and
the ice melt fast.
