Motivation/Introduction:
I will do the Smelly Sock activity. The using a three of the five senses, seeing, feeling, and smelling will
get the children engaged.
Procedure: (This should read like a recipe listing everything you and the children will do.)
1. Smelly Socks
- Present 5 fruits an apple, an orange, a banana, a kiwi, and a pear
- Ask a variety of questions, like What is this? What shape is the fruit? What color is this?
- Place each fruit in a clean sock
- Let children take turns smelling, touching, and describing whats in the sock
- Without peeking see if children can guess whats in the sock
2. My Plate project
- Children are given 1 paper plate
- There is 1 red, 1 green, 1 orange, and 1 purple stamp pads present
- Food stampers of all 4 sections of the food plate on the table
- Using 1 marker, let the children draw on plate into 4 separate sections
- With the stampers, put each into the proper color associated with the food group
- Wash hands thoroughly completed
- Put materials away and wash the table
- The center pays for the food and returns back to the center
I will send home a list of simple healthy recipes that the family can do together at home
Evaluation:
( 1 ) If the children can tell which foods are healthy foods
( 2 ) If the children can describe the look, feel, color, and taste of certain foods
( 3 ) If the children can explain how food keeps the body healthy
Concepts to be reinforced:
(1) Hands should always be washed carefully before eating or touching food.
(2) Cleanliness of all foods and the people who handle foods prevents illness.
(3) Involving children in food preparation teaches important lessons about how food must be handled to
keep it safe

Motivation/Introduction
The activity of hand washing is a hands on, getting physically involved exercise. This will give children
an involvement into what procedures keep people healthy
Pre-Lesson Preparation Needed: Yes
- Get dental mirrors
- Collect dirt
- Magnified glasses
Procedure: (This should read like a recipe listing everything you and the children will do.)
1. Cleaning Your Hands
- Discussion as a class the importance of hand washing
- Cover the childrens hands with dirt
- Using 1 paper towel try to dry their hands
- Take a magnified glass and let them look at their hands
- They will see dirt is still on their hands
- The children will wash their hands in the sink
- Washing hands until they sing the all of the ABCs wash their hands and put soap on.
- Hand each child a paper hand towel and help them to thoroughly dry their hands off
5. Bubble Art
- Add food coloring to bubble mix
- Blow bubbles outside
- The children have a piece of paper
- Catch the bubble on the piece of paper
6. Teeth Time
- Children will observe teeth in their mouth with dentil mirrors
- Explain they are small round mirrors real dentist use
- Talk about healthy foods we should eat
- After looking at their teeth the children will wash their hands
- Then help wash 2 apples, 3 bananas, and 1 carrot
- Children will eat some food
- The children will wash hands again
7. Clean Tooth
- Show a drawing of a tooth on a big piece of paper with cotton balls
- The children will be given a piece of paper
- 1 marker each
- The children will draw a big tooth
- The children are given cotton balls and glue
- The children will glue on the cotton ball on to the tooth
8. Refrigerator Drawings
- Gather the class together and discuss how certain food and drinks needs to be refrigerated
- With play food from house area give examples of cheese, hot dog, and milk
- The children are given paper and crayons
- Children create drawings of what is in their refrigerator at home
9. Placemats
- Give the children a big piece of paper
- The children are given markers
- The children can make any creative design
- The children put their name on it
Closure/Transition: When the activity is done, how will you finish it? How will you include the child in the
closure?
The child will send the chefs hat and placemat home. Giving the child enthusiasm to help out in the
kitchen
