RCPS Online Geometry

Instructor: Tiffany Sakaguchi

Email: tsakaguchi@rcs.k12.va.us
Cell Phone: (540) 314-3195
Do not call after 9pm.

Expectations: We have approximately seven weeks to get through the same material that is taught in
a Geometry course during the regular school year. This means that you must be extremely dedicated,
motivated, organized, and responsible to get yourself through this class. Instructors will be available
through email and by cell phone, but it is your responsibility to watch the videos and keep up with the
due dates for homework, quizzes, and tests.

Grading: All quizzes and tests will be graded by Blackboard as soon as they are completed.
Blackboard will only show you your score, not which questions you missed. Homework grades will be
updated on Blackboard every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday by the instructors.

Grades will be calculated as follows:

100 pts Tests
100 pts Mock SOL
50 points Quizzes
50 points Formative Assessments
25 points Homework

Roanoke County Schools Grading Scale:

A 100 90 B 89 80 C 79 70 D 69 60 F 59 0

Materials: The student will need the following materials:

Pencils
Loose-leaf paper
Graph paper
Straight edge
Compass
Calculator

Video Lessons: Found under the Video Lessons button are YouTube lessons for each section. In
addition to videos, some sections include additional learning materials. You should watch each section
carefully before beginning the practice assignments.

Notes: Found under the Class Documents button are notes by chapter for each section. You can
reference these as needed to help understand the topics from the videos.
Homework (on www.mathxlforschool.com): Login to www.mathxlforschool.com with your
username and password. These assignments are for you to complete prior to taking each quiz so that
you know exactly what is expected of you when you take each quiz. You should retry each problem
until you get it correct. The goal is for you to get a 100% on each homework assignment. Your grade
on Blackboard will be based on correctness and NOT completion.

Quizzes/Tests: The quizzes and tests are located under the Quizzes and Tests button. If a test locks
up, you will need to notify the instructor ASAP by email or cell phone. Once you notify an instructor,
we can clear your last attempt so you can start over. We will not answer the phone after 9pm. This
means that you must not wait until the last minute to take your tests and quizzes. The test locking up
on you is not an excuse for the test being submitted late. Please do not procrastinate. Some of the
quizzes and tests do contain some large images so they will lock up and not load from time to time.

You will have 2 attempts for each quiz and a time limit of 45 minutes. Once you begin a quiz, your
time starts! At the end of the time limit, your quiz will automatically be saved and submitted unless
you save and submit before the time expires. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO STOP IN THE
MIDDLE OF A QUIZ OR TEST AND RESUME LATER. SO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE
TIME TO COMPLETE THE QUIZ OR TEST THE MOMENT YOU BEGIN TAKING IT! The
questions will NOT remain the same each time you take the quiz, they are randomly generated. Your
final quiz grade will be the attempt with the highest grade, not necessarily your last attempt.

You will have 1 attempt for each test and a time limit of 60 minutes. The same time limit rules apply
to tests as they do for quizzes (stated above).

Formative Assessments and Mock SOL: You will have 3 formative assessments and a Mock SOL.
They are located in i-Test and the link is available under the FAs and Mock SOL button. When you
take your formative assessments, they will be monitored by an instructor through Blackboard
Collaborate. You will need to email an instructor when you are going to take the test so we can agree
upon a time. You will log into Blackboard Collaborate then go to i-Test. I will be able to see your
computer screen. Please study for the formative assessment. There is a study guide and answers
provided under the Course Documents button. If you are receiving As and Bs on the quizzes and
tests and fail the formative assessment, you may be asked to take the quizzes and tests again in a
monitored environment.

Pacing/Deadlines: (see course calendar under class information) Homework assignments will NOT
be accepted late. If quizzes or tests are submitted later than midnight of the due date listed, the grade
will drop by 10 percent for every day late (up to 5 days). Do not wait until the last minute to
complete assignments. Reasons such as the internet being down, having to work, not understanding
the material or being out of town are NOT acceptable excuses for late work.

Note: No work can be submitted after the SOL at the end of July!
