Dear Judges:

My name is Calahan Heidt. I am a senior at St. James High School. My high school career has
been filled with pleasure, amusement and some stress. I was recently accepted into the
Burroughs and Chapin art show for a sculpture I created. I am looking forward to attending The
Citadel Military Institute in August for Mechanical Engineering. My father attended the institute
and I am excited to follow in his footsteps.

My topic of Technology in Cars was inspired by my love of working on and researching

automobiles. I enjoy doing engine work to my 1987 Jeep Comanche and restoring my 1973
Triumph GT6. Because of this, I could easily understand the science behind my topic. Along
with this, I also connected with my topic by my interested in future innovations. As a kid I was
always interested in inventions and innovations thats advanced technology. I want to pursue a
career in Mechanical Engineering which will allow me to make technological breakthroughs.

This senior project exploration was, for the most part, enjoyable. I had a true interest in my topic,
which helped me to stay focused on it and want to learn as much about it as possible. I also have
many friends who are interested in cars. This allowed me to use and talk about many of the new
things I learned during my research with my friends. At first finding sources was difficult but
once I got a good understanding of the database research became much easier.

Thank you judges for both your time and attention. I hope my research might give a fresh
perspective on cars and today's new technological advancements in the automotive field.
