Postcards Of War Mini-Project

Due March 17th

For this project, you are expected to practice historical
perspective writing by creating a war-time postcard. You can
decide whether the postcard is sent from the home-front to a
soldier, or from a soldier on the front lines to home. Your post card
should elaborate on the details of WWI: if you choose to write
from the home-front, explain what changes are taking place. If
you write from the battlefield, discuss things like technological
changes and geography. This post-card should be written from a
first-person perspective (i.e. you should be stating things from
an I perspective) and should present a clear picture of what it
was like to live through World War I.
Your postcard MUST include:

A colored visual representation on the front (This can be a re-

creation of propaganda at the time, a picture of a soldiers
family, or even a picture from the front lines no blood or
gore though!) THIS MUST BE HAND-DRAWN, and you
should spend time on this drawing. No stick figures!!
Who the postcard is from, and to whom and where its
headed (explain the relationship and why you are writing a
postcard to this person)
A descriptive message of life on the home-front or on the
front lines (this should dive into how the war has changed
your life and what it now looks like)
First-person writing style this is a letter!! Additionally,
your letter should reflect thoughtfulness this means few to
no grammar mistakes and correct spelling. No Us!!
A stamp that depicts a person of importance during World
War I: this person should be referenced to in your letter.
Your postcard can be handwritten or typed and printed out
(Please choose the latter option if you feel you have bad
handwriting).
Must be 12-15 sentences long. These sentences should
thoughtfully describe historical events taking place at the
time. The events should make sense and relate to your story.
Do not just throw in events that dont relate to your persona!
