SUNY Canton Early Childhood Program

Student Self-Evaluation Form

Complete Parts 1 and 2 following your lesson plan activity implementation.

Name: Morgan Morse
Date: 4/14/17
Focus: Perceptual, Motor, and Physical Development
Title of Lesson: Dancing Like Ourselves
Part 1: Evaluation
Objective 1:
Met
o Not Met

Outcome:
The children coordinated their leg and arm movements very well. They were able
to do the arm and leg movements separately and then coordinate them when we
out them together.
Follow-Up:
I would introduce other kinds of dances and teach them moves from them. This
would allow them to continue to foster coordination.
Objective 2
Met
o Not Met

Outcome:
The children showed amazing balance when doing the ballet moves in particular.
They were able to point their toes and stand on one foot very successfully.
Follow-Up:
I would teach them more ballet moves, particularly ones that require them to go on
their tippy toes. This would increase their balance in a fun way.
Objective 3
Met
o Not Met

Outcome:
The children followed my directions very well. I didnt have to correct any of their
arms or legs. They were very successful in following the direction of my arm
movements and listening to my left, right, up and down verbal instructions.
Follow-Up:
I would play a game that involves copying the leader. They would have to copy the
arm and leg movements the leader does. I would then only give verbal directions
and see how well they did. This would continue to build their directionality and
challenge their skills.
Part 2: Self-Evaluation / Reflection

Complete each question following the lesson activity implementation:

1. Overall, how would you rate the success of your lesson activity?
_____Fair ______Good __X___Excellent

2. What specific parts of the activity were most successful? Provide 3

examples to support your response.
The children loved learning about the different styles of dancing. They all
contributed to the conversation about how it made them feel listening to the
music. They also really enjoyed learning the dance moves. At recess they asked
me to bring the music outside so they could teach their friends to dance. At the
end of my lesson I did a freestyle dance. We danced for a few minutes and then we
watched each child do their favorite dance move. The children were glowing with
pride and confidence and some of them asked to show more than one move. The
easy, not rushed atmosphere made for a relaxed lesson.
3. Describe any difficulties or challenges you encountered.
Were you adequately planned and prepared?
I was unable to find DAP pictures of the dance moves. My original idea had salsa
dancers in it. I found that there dance moves were not appropriate for children.

4. How would you address the difficulties and/or challenges if it

happened again?
I just demonstrated the dance moves several times and found that the children
comprehended them. I switched the salsa dancers out for flamenco dancers and
found that their moves were child appropriate.

5. Additional thoughts, insights, reflections:

The children really enjoyed this lesson. Im glad that I was able to have fun with
them before I left.
