As John the Baptizer was teaching his disciples about God, he turned and saw Jesus walking. “Look! It’s the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world!” Two of his disciples heard this and ran to follow Jesus. One of these men was Andrew.
Andrew had a brother named Simon. He ran to Simon and said, “Come we have found the Messiah, you have to come meet him!” Simon didn’t know who his brother was talking about, but he followed Andrew anyways to see what was happening.
Andrew brought Simon to Jesus and Jesus said, “You are Simon son of John, but I call you Peter, because you will stand firm like a rock.” Peter didn’t know what to say.
As Jesus walked through Galilee he saw Philip, and He said “Come follow me.” And Phillip did, just like that.
Then Philip went and found his friend Nathaniel and told him all about Jesus. “Nazareth? He’s from Nazareth? Nothing good comes from there,” said Nathaniel, but he followed Philip to see what he was talking about.
As Nathaniel walked up Jesus said, “Here comes a good Israelite.” “How do you know me?” he asked. “I saw you under the fig tree before Philip even talked to you,” answered Jesus. Nathaniel was amazed! “Teacher, you really are the son of God and the King!” he declared in amazement. “You believe because I told you about seeing you, but you will see even greater things than this.”
