Chapter 11 Investigative Task

ESP

My friend Alexis says she has ESP (extrasensory perception). To see if what she says is true, she

will try to correctly pass out envelopes that has the signatures of 10 volunteers to the correct

person. For me to really believe that she has ESP, she has to get 10 trials all correct. Below are

the results of the trials:

Trial Order which given Matches

1 7 3 9 6 2 4 8 1 0 5 0

2 6 1 0 9 4 2 5 3 7 8 2

3 1 9 0 6 4 7 2 8 3 5 1

4 6 0 4 9 1 2 3 5 8 7 0

5 1 8 3 4 2 7 6 0 9 5 1

6 7 8 5 9 2 0 3 4 6 1 0

7 1 8 6 5 9 7 2 4 0 3 0

8 7 6 3 0 8 2 1 9 5 4 0

9 0 4 3 6 9 8 7 2 1 5 1

10 4 0 1 7 8 6 5 9 2 3 0

11 6 1 3 9 5 4 7 8 2 0 1

12 0 5 9 6 1 2 4 8 3 7 1

13 0 9 2 4 5 3 7 6 8 1 3
14 9 8 2 0 1 7 6 4 3 5 2

15 0 3 6 5 2 1 7 4 9 8 1

16 7 9 4 3 0 5 8 2 1 6 2

17 2 5 9 3 6 1 8 7 4 0 2

18 1 2 9 0 8 4 5 7 3 6 1

19 2 6 9 4 0 7 3 5 8 1 1

20 3 6 9 0 5 1 8 2 7 4 0

As the results shows, Alexis clearly does not have ESP. She did not match the number sequence

of 0123456789 when handing back the envelopes to the correct people. She could not even get 1

trial completely right.
