The Importance of the Anne Frank House Museum

By: Sarah Bowman

Anne Frank and her family were one of the many families that were persecuted during the Holocaust.
Anne Frank was born on June 12,1929 in Annelies Marie. Her parents were Edith and Otto Frank. In Frankfurt,
Germany Otto Frank was a lieutenant in the German army during World War l, and then later became a
businessman in Germany and the Netherlands. The Anne Frank story is a historical landmark of great value for
education, resistance and to make sure nothing like this would ever happen again.

Anne Frank was the second youngest daughter in her family, born on June 12, 1929 of Otto and Edith Frank.
The Frank family was a Jewish family that suffered during World War II. Fearing the Nazi persecution of the
Jews, the family went into hiding for two years; during this time Anne wrote about her thoughts and wishes in
her diary that she got for her 13th birthday. The Frank family and the others (Jewish families) lived in a small
space and could not go outside or even open the curtains for much of the time. Their goal was to escape being
murdered because they were Jews. I keep my ideals, because in spite of everything I still believe that people
are really good at heart. (Anne Frank Exhibit)

A month after she started writing in the diary, her family went into hiding from the Nazis in a secret annex to
a business in Amsterdam. As she extensively recorded the details of their lives in the annex and wrote short
stories and poems, Anne Frank developed an interest in writing professionally. After hearing Queen Wilhelmina
say on the radio that she would like to see reports published about what happened during the Nazi occupation,
Anne Frank decided she wanted to publish her diary after World War II. Parents can only give good advice or
put them on the right paths, but the final forming of a person's character lies in their own hands. (Anne Frank
Exhibit)

Anne Frank revised sections she had written previously to prepare the diary to be published once the war
ended. In the published version of Annes diary meets the candid observations and concerns of an adolescent
with literary style that wouldn't be seen in writing solely of a teenagers own purpose. Whoever doesn't know it
must learn and find by experience that 'a quiet conscience makes one strong!' (Anne Frank Exhibit) From
Anne Frank's diary, readers get a feeling that a regular girl wrote the diary, while Annes writing level sets her
far apart from the average teeenager. Some of Annes abilities are rendering specific and realistic details, and
capturing her thoughts and feelings.

The Anne Frank House Museum is very important because it can teach us about resistance during the
Holocaust and to never have this happen again. I hope that everyone reading this will learn about and remember
Anne Frank as well as all of the difficulty and persecution of the Holocaust. All of us should try to learn about
the Holocaust because there are some people that say it wasnt even a true event. But Anne Franks Diary and
the Anne Frank Exhibit are evidence that this was a very true event. I hope you want to learn from Anne, a girl
with advanced writing skills, so we never forget the Holocaust.
