ASSIGNMENT 1

The components
PC: 2 pcs were used one was to vary the variables of the LED light and the other
was for the recordings.
Light source: LED lamp whose intensity and other characteristics were controlled
by the pc.
Aperture: to control light diffusion and prevent dispersion of the light.
Filter: A filter is used to reduce the intensity of white light.
Faraday cage: To cut out external light pollution and noise from electrical
equipments
Pre-amplifier: This is placed within the faraday cage, it has three connections,
which include one as a connection to the earth and the other to transfer
negative and positive current. It main function is to adjust the impedance
maintain the voltage and amplify the current so as to maintain the signal before
it passes it on to the amplifier
Amplifier: amplifier is used to boost the signals between 500 and 1000 times.
The high pass filter and low pass filter is adjusted to to get the correct signals
within a specific threshold.
Data acquisition system: the signal from the amplifier goes to this system and . it
controls the trigger signal and allows data to be visualised
U to I converter: this chip enables us to adjust LED brightness by converting
voltage to current.
Analog to digital converter: this device converts analog signals to a 14bit digital
space by sampling it
experiment designo
This experiment is to determine the sum potential of a fly retina using the
severed head of a fly and recording directly by inserting an electrode into its eye.
We use LED Light source whose intensity can be varied so that all the necessary
waves in an ERG can be recorded. A spectrometer sensor is placed in the
faraday cage in front of the fly head and light focused on it.
We start from 10v and halve it for a total of 14 steps. An aperture is to prevent
dispersion of a light we then expect to see a b c or d wave when experiment is
conducted.
