I attended an opera called The Abduction from the Seraglio.

It was performed by the

Houston Grande Opera. I saw the opera on May 10th, 2017. The singing in the opera was

phenomenal. The characters in The Abduction from the Seraglio were very entertaining to the

audience. It was a very funny and enjoyable opera to watch.

The opera was sung in German. The consonants were stressed as they should be. The

diction was great. There were even times when two people were singing different parts at the

same time, and the diction remained clear.

There were multiple characters in The Abduction from the Seraglio that were

extremely enjoyable to watch. They had excellent singing and stage presence. Konstanze, the

female lead played by Albina Shagimuratova, was a great soprano. She had multiple solos that

she sang very well. Belmonte, the male lead played by Lawrence Brownlee, was an incredible

tenor singer. He also had multiple solos that he sang with great power and technique. Osmin,

played by Ryan Speedo Green, was another character of the opera. He was a very enjoyable

character to watch. Osmin was very funny and he had excellent stage presence. He was a bass-

baritone and had many solos. Each character brought life to the opera through their excellent

singing and great stage presence.

The set of the opera was very realistic. At times, the characters would use parts of the set

for props to contribute to the humor of the show. The set was very creative and made the opera

even more interesting to watch.

The Abduction from the Seraglio was a very entertaining opera to watch. It also

teaches HSPVA vocalists the importance of stage presence, and how much better it can make
their performance in the audiences point of view. The diction was very clear. The solos were

sung phenomenally. Overall, The Abduction from the Seraglio was a great opera.
