PROFILE
Sisters Sudha and Srividhya, aged, 26 and 29,
respectively, are daughters of the yester-year
Carnatic Vocalist Gita, of Uma-Gita Sisters. They
started their musical career as violinists. Later, their
keen interest in the duo presentation, along with their
mothers yearning, resulted in the duo taking up
vocal, to showcase the rich repertoire and patantara
of their mother.

Srividhya was working as a guest faculty in The Kalakshetra Foundation for the Academic
year 2016-17. She was also taking Vocal and Violin contact classes for the Distance Education wing
of the University of Madras, and occasionally appearing as Examiner for the same.

QUALIFICATIONS
Musical Vocal Duo : B-High grade from AIR, Chennai
Violin : A and B-High respectively, from AIR, Chennai
Academic The sisters completed their schooling in Vidya Mandir, Mylapore.
Both of them, are Bachelor degree holders in Computer Applications -
Srividhya from M.G.R Janaki College for Women and Sudha from M.O.P
Vaishnav College for Women.
Srividhya has completed her Masters in Music, and took up Compositions of
Calcutta K.S. Krishnamurthy for her project and was awarded the First Rank
in M.A Music in 2010.
Sudha completed M.A.Sanskrit and M.Music from the University of
Madras and was given a Cash award by The Mylapore Academy for being
the Best Student in M.A Sanskrit in 2012.
Srividhyas M.Phil research on Life and contribution of Margadarsi
Seshayyangar was carried out as a pilot-study for her Doctoral research, which
she submitted earlier this year.
Sudhas M.Phil research was a study and translation of Harikeshanallur
Muthiah Bhagavatars work, titled Srimat Thyagaraja Vijayam. She is
presently pursuing her Doctoral research.
Srividhya has cleared the National Eligibility Test(NET) and State Eligibility
Test(SET), competitive exams, conducted by the UGC to qualify for
Lectureship.

GURUS
Vocal The sisters were initiated into vocal music by their mother Smt. Gita (one among
Mayavaram Sisters, Uma-Gita). They were under the tutelage of Sri Calcutta K.S.
Krishnamurthy, till the veterans demise, after which they continued their
advanced training under Smt. Gita.
Violin Smt. Lalitha Raghavan (retired AIR staff artiste and A-top grade Violinist), trained
the sisters in Violin, from the age of five.

ACCOLADES
Received Narayana Theerthar Award for their Vocal performance in the Gokulashtami
Festival organized by Sri Krishna Gana Sabha in 2014.
Srividhya and Sudha have been granted the Senior Scholarship by the Ministry of Culture,
Government of India for Advanced training in Vocal and Violin respectively in the year
2013.
Received D. K. Pattamal Award for their Vocal performance in the Gokulashtami Festival
organized by Sri Krishna Gana Sabha in 2013.
Sudha was adjudged as one the Best Violinists by Ramana Kendra in the year 2011.
Sudha was adjudged The Best Violinist in the Spirit Of Youth Concerts organized by
The Music Academy, Madras in the year 2009.
Sudha was given the Vocal Junior Award by Narada Gana Sabha in the year 2008.
Sudha was adjudged The Best Violinist in the Spirit Of Youth Concerts organized by
The Music Academy, Madras in the year 2009.
Both have won the All India Pallavi Competition, conducted by SAFE for Violin, as
accompanists.
They have been given the tittle Sangeetha Bhaskara by the Gnanaskandan trust in 2005 &
2006 for violin.
Received Lalgudi Jayaraman & Lalgudi Gopala Iyer Awards, respectively, for
accompanying in the Talent promotion concerts in the 49th Gokulashtami Festival conducted
by Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, in 2004.
Sudha has also been granted the CCRT Government Scholarship for advanced training in
Violin, since 2004.
They got the M.D.Ananthamachari Award ; T.Kesavulu & Parur Sundaram Iyer
Endowment Prize for their violin performances in the 51st Gokulashtami Festival, held in
2006, organized by Sri Krishna Gana Sabha.
They have received many prizes in competitions conducted by prestigious Sabhas like
Mylapore Fine Arts, Music Academy, Indian Fine Arts etc. for both Vocal and Violin
including a tambura prize from Raja Annamalaipuram Bhakta Jana Sabha.
Srividhya had a keen interest in Mathematics, which is evident from her centum in the
boards. She was also given the 'Most Musically Talented Student' Award while leaving the
School.

PERFORMANCES
The sisters have performed in the inaugural series of the Radel Music Festival conducted by the
Music Academy, Chennai, in the year 2016
Have given vocal duo concerts in Sabhas like Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Brahma Gana Sabha,
Naada Inbam, Nadopasana, Shanthi Arts Foundation and Endowments (SAFE), Mylapore Fine
Arts Club, Music Academy, Indian Fine Arts, Karthik Fine Arts, Narada Gana Sabha, Kapali Fine
Arts, Thyaga Brahma Gana Sabha, Sri Parthasarathy Swamy Sabha and Thyagaraja Seva Samiti
both in monthly and December festival concerts.
Sudha has been accompanying for the the reality show Tanishq Swarna Sangeetham being
telecast on Raj TV. Both of them were invited to give a special performance on the same show
in 2013.
Sudha has had the privilege of participating in the National Program for Vaadya Vrinda, an
orchestra held by All India Radio in the year 2012. This was also telecast by Doordarshan for a
program titled Isai Saral.
 They have given a Violin Duet for Doordarshan, for the Isai Arangam Program, in 2012.
They were selected by the Tamil Nadu Iyal Isai Nataka Mandram in the Vocal category in the
year 2010.
Srividhya and Sudha have been interviewed in the program titled Pudhu Punal in Podhigai in
the year 2009.
In the year 2007, Sudha went on a 3-month concert tour to the United States and Canada, for
accompanying on the violin in various organizations, including the Cleveland Thyagaraja
Aradhana Festival.
Srividhya has played violin in the Sugamana Raagangal program telecast by Podhigai in the
year 2007.
Both of them are All India Radio Competition winners in the violin category. They were invited
to perform in Bangalore and Vijayawada respectively for the same.
Sudha has performed before the Former President of India, Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam in 2006.
Both were selected by the Tamil Nadu Iyal Isai Nataka Mandram and has been providing violin
accompaniment in various Sabhas of Tamil Nadu since 2007.
They won the Music Competition named Raagam Sangeetham held by Raj TV, in the violin
category.
Have given concerts outside Chennai in organizations like Shanmukhananda (Bombay),
Chembur Fine Arts (Bombay), Rasika Ranjani Sabha (Trichy), Sathguru Sangeeth Samajam
(Madurai), Pollachi Tamil Isai Sangam (Pollachi), Thyagaraja Seva Samajam (Tanuku)
They have performed in TV channels like Jaya, Sun, Podhigai, Raj, Mega, Vasanth, Imayam,
Win and Tamilan.
They have accompanied on violin and sung in Baala Bruhmam (Jaya TV program) organized
by Mr.Ramjhi.
Accompanying many artistes since 2003 in all major Sabhas in Chennai.

ARTICLES AND PAPERS PRESENTED

Srividhya presented a paper titled, Saveri as portrayed by the Trinity for the Research
Seminar conducted by the Sunada Trust on 24-01-2016.
Her Seminar Paper titled Tala and Sahitya Relationship in Seshayyangars Compositions,
presented on 29-10-2015 at the National Seminar held at the University of Madras, Chennai, was
also published ISBN: 978-93-5254-627-5
She also presented a Poster at the Graduate Panel conducted by Indian Musicological Society
and National Centre for Performing Arts, Mumbai in collaboration with Music Forum on 06-
01-2015.
Srividhya presented a paper titled, Margadarsi Seshayyangars Compositions- A Study, in the
two-day Research Seminar organized by The Music Academy, Chennai on 11-10-2014.
