I have made an action priority matrix, by using a worksheet provided by Mindtools. I was
hoping that this tool would automatically make the appropriate graph afterwards.
Unfortunately, this was not the case. Therefore I will manually show the results.
Postponing tasks
1. Only open up whats necessary on your pc. No social media and other temptations
2. In order to not postpone, make a good planning and be strict afterwards
3. These real time-wasters should be avoided, but are important too. Make sure to plan ahead
to have free time for leisure.
Time
Mid-term Reflection
In this part of the assignment, I would like to reflect on my personal experiences with regards to
time-management. As can be read previously, I have made an effort by drafting up a schedule
with all tasks and exams at the start of the first semester. This list is categorized by course
name. Apart from making a list, I have inserted the data in my Outlook calendar.
Reflecting on this activities with regards to time-management, I will make an effort in sharing
my thoughts. Making a list with all tasks and exams in advance and estimating the amount of
time required to fulfill these tasks, seemed to be a lot at first. Because I needed it for my TMD
portfolio, I did finish the list obviously. After inserting this data in my calendar, I started
noticing the charm and the beneficial value of the effort made. Mainly because of the fact that I
could see every deadline and task on my mobile phone and on Mijn Dinar, I was constantly
reminded of upcoming deadlines. Studying and keeping up with everything was challenging at
times, because besides studying I try to work for 20 hours every week at least.
With regards to the estimations made, they were not very accurate. Sometimes I succeeded in
making the task quicker than expected, but many times it even took longer than estimated.
In general, I must admit that this task helped me to plan ahead, but the question that remains is
how to streamline this technique for future usage. Therefore, I have made 2 SMART action
points.
1. Use Outlook calendar function for all activities, not only school activities.
2. Only make estimations when you can determine it accurately. If not, do not estimate.
By implementing both action points, I will streamline my time-management system. The
calendar function is very useful and can therefore be used to replace my paper agenda in the
long run. Estimations were sometimes wrong, which caused stress. Therefore I must try to be
more accurate, or stop with estimating in advance.
