Prophets and Messengers in Islam.
Prophets and messengers are people that Allah SWT sent to spread the message of Islam
and guide humanity to the
right path. Their role was to
reject false beliefs and to
teach people the true concept
of God and life. Their role was
also to explain manners, good
deeds, sins and their

Malik reported: The

Messenger of Allah, peace and
blessings be upon him, said, I
have been sent to perfect good
character. Hadith: al-
Muwatta 1614.

Messengers and prophets arent the same. All

messengers are prophets but not all prophets are
messengers. Messengers had specific messages to
deliver to their people but not all messengers had
books. Prophets guide their people with the
information that the messenger before them

Prophets and messengers all shared main

characteristics. They had noble character and they only
desired Allah SWTs approval. They werent interested
in worldly matters such as wealth, high status or power.
They also received revelations from Allah SWT through
Jibreel AS. They could also perform miracles with the
assistance of Allah SWT.

Allah SWT only chose the most

exceptional people with the best of
morals to embark on the mission of
spreading Islam. Prophets and
messengers had to be persistent, honest,
righteous, courageous, wise, patient and
good leaders. They were chosen before
their physical body and soul were made.

Noah AS showed a good example of the prophets and messengers persistence. He called
people to Islam for 950 years even when most of his
people rejected him and mocked him.

He said, My Lord, indeed I invited my people [to truth]

night and day. But my invitation increased them not
except in flight. And indeed, every time I invited them that
You may forgive them, they put their fingers in their ears,
covered themselves with their garments, persisted, and
were arrogant with [great] arrogance. Quran, 71:5-7

Ibrahim AS showed excellent example of

the prophets and messengers courage
when he challenged his entire
community and rejected their idols at
the age of 7.

Ibraham said to his father Azar, Do you

take idols as deities? Indeed, I see you
and your people to be in manifest error.
Quran, 6:74

Mohammad SAW showed great example of the prophets and messengers wisdom. He
united the rivalling tribes in Arabia, who had long histories of conflict, into one peaceful

Moussa AS showed amazing example of the prophets and

messengers leadership when he lead his people in
escaping Pharaoh, who was very oppressive. Although
they were close to death, Moussa ASs faith didnt waver
and so he succeeded.

The companions of Moussa said, Indeed, we are to be

Moussa said, No! Indeed, with me is my Lord; He will guide

me. Quran, 42:61-62

These examples show how the prophets qualities were truly excellent. Prophets are
certainly role models and we should strive to acquire their good character and live from
their example.

Verily in the messenger of Allah you have a good example for him who looks unto Allah and
the last Day, and remembers Allah much. Quran, 33:21.
