FAKULTI SAINS
SEMESTER II 2016/2017
GROUP ASSIGNMENT I(5%)

General Instructions:

1. Students are grouped in 3 to 4 members per group.

2. Each group must define clearly the roles of each team member, such as leader,
recorder, etc.
3. Each group must have at least THREE meetings for discussion and completion of the
assignment. The discussion and attendance in every meeting must be recorded and
attached with the assignment report. Record the role of each member. The details
(when meet, who does what, what is the discussion, etc) are to be recorded as part of
the assignment.
4. The assignment report must be typed in ENGLISH and submitted by 25th May 2017.
A hard copy report is required. You may use the equation editor in Microsoft word to
create the formula.
ASSIGNMENT QUESTIONS:
1. An excessive amount of ozone in the air is indicative of air pollution. 40 air samples
were collected from each of five locations in the industrial area and measured for their
content of ozone. The amounts of ozone (in parts per million) are shown in Table 1.
Based on the data:

a) Present all the data using a suitable graphical method (e.g boxplot, stem and
leaf, histogram, etc). You may use any statistic packages or EXCEL to do the
graphic. Compute the measure of central tendency and dispersion of the data
for each location and compare the locations based on their computed values.
Explain briefly on the distribution of the data.
b) Each group is required to use random number uniform generators to get n1=10,
n2=15, n3=12, n4=9, n5=14 from the data set. List down your new data set.
Based on your new data set, you are then requested to test whether there is
significance different in mean at a chosen level of significance. Conduct a
one way ANOVA using MS Excel to analyze the effect of the factor at 5% and
1% levels of significance. A complete report should have all necessary items
such as the underlying model and assumptions, the testing procedure, and etc.
Note: Different group will have different sets of data.
