Radio Datasheet 228 Nokia Metrosite

This datasheet is compiled and owned by Radio Design and Systems. Date of last update: (January2001)

SUMMARY: This document describes the Nokia Metrosite BTS product which
is a complete all-climate microcellular base transceiver station.
Target Audience: This document is primarily intended for Technology staff, Site Designers and Build
Q-Codes: NMM2 designates a Metrosite Microcell 2 carrier Indoor / Outdoor BTS.
NMM4 designates a Metrosite Microcell 3 or 4 carrier Indoor / Outdoor BTS
NMI designates a Metrosite In-Building Microcell BTS
NMSO designates a Metrosite Street Furniture Sectored Omni BTS
NMS1 designates a Metrosite Street Furniture Sectored BTS
NMS2 designates 2 Metrosites in a Street Furniture Sectored BTS

Description: The Nokia Metrosite BTS incorporates up to four TRXs of either GSM 900 or GSM
1800 frequency. The Metrosite GSM carriers are capable of a 5W output.
The Metrosite can be sectored, since every TRX has an antenna connection. When
two or more TRXs belong to the same cell, then receiver diversity and synthesiser
frequency hopping features can be enabled.
The Metrosite platform can perform all the functions that support the GSM air
interface and backhaul transmissions. The Metrosite has an integrated fault
management system whilst supporting GPRS.
The Metrosite will be expandable to incorporate 12TRXs as one BCF object. This
chaining will be achieved by extending the BTS internal buses, using single cables,
via the extension interface on the interface unit, so requiring only the 'master' to
have a transmission unit.
Transmission: The transmission unit connects the BTS and BSC via the Abis interface. The
transmission can be via either a radio link (RRI) or wire (E1). The transmission unit
FC E1/T1 provides one Abis line interface to the 2Mbit/s via the transmission link;
this constrains the Metrosite to being a termination point. To enable linking the
'master' unit requires a transmission unit FXC E1, because it has four Abis line
interfaces to the 2Mbit/s- (E1) transmission line.
