1.0 Purpose/Scope
This procedure defines responsibilities and actions for the management of gatch pits. It covers the
establishment, operation and closure of pits and applies to all activities involving the extraction,
transportation and use of gatch for all KOC projects.

2.0 Definitions
Gatch - Calcareous sand or gravel used for civil and construction works.

3.0 General Requirements
Kuwait Environment Public Authority Environmental Requirements and Standards in the State of
Kuwait, Chapter One, Development and Environment, The Environmental Outcome of the
Development Projects, Articles 1-5 and Chapter Six, The Protection of Earth from Pollution, First :
Protection of Earth and Desert Areas, Article 72 (Decision No. 210/2001 Pertaining to the Executive
By-Law of the Law of Environment Public Authority)

HSE-04 - Expectation 7: Local regulatory and other requirements shall be met or exceeded. Where
these are absent or inadequate, the highest accepted industry standards shall be applied to protect
people and the environment.

4.0 Key Responsibilities

4.1 Group Managers
 Provide estimates of future gatch requirements to Directorate/Asset HSE TLs.
 Ensure that all operations within their control comply with this procedure.
 Ensure that Operation Staff are trained and well aware of this procedure.
 Responsible for EIA as detailed out in KOC.EV.003.
 Identify Requesting Team(s) responsible for identifying new gatch pits and completing EIA
Screening Checklist.

Assist Production Operations/Controlling Team in preparing scope of EIA Study and obtaining approval of EIA Study Report.3 Directorate/Asset HSE Team Leaders  Assist Production Operations Teams in development of Gatch Management Plan.
