story thats nothing short of cinematic: After growing
up between Paris and the village of Versailles in a
community of Russian migrs, she fled to the United
States on the eve of World WarII. (My father paid the passage
with a bag of jewelry, she recalls.) In New York, she met her
second husbandCount Nicholas, a descendant of Catherine the

The duo went on to own Zina Studios, the custom wallcovering-
and-fabric studio that was beloved by Sister Parish, Albert Hadley,
and Elsie de Wolfe. Those great designers were not fussy! she
says. They would take off their coats, get right into
the paints, and start mixing. Holland & Sherry has
recently partnered with the bustling studio to reissue
some of the graphic, timeless patterns created for
those design legends, all in fresh colorways. I love
something that smacks of the old centuries.

Now in business for more than 50 years,

Bobrinskoy shows no signs of slowing down. Her
secret? Keeping busy. (She is also chancellor of the
Orthodox Order of Knights Hospitaller of St.John.)
When I finish work, I go home and take a shot of
potato vodka and a bit of smoked fish, she says. You
dont need much. I have things to do.
