“Once again, a well-oiled machine,” he said. “This
is the culmination of our ten days of events and the
Board of Directors are well versed in our areas of
responsibility and carry out our tasks. Although we
didn’t break attendance records this year (attributed
to heat, I believe), we still had a great turnout with
some awesome vendors and as always, the best in
entertainment.”
Cummings said CAP was already planning for
next year. “Each year we break down each event and
talk about the pros and cons,” Cummings said. “We
learn something new each year and work to make
each event bigger and better than the previous year.
Our website (www.centralalabamapride.org) will be
overhauled this year as well to help better publicize
our events and those in our community.”

the parade line up. Photo by Cindi Gilliom Executive director of Equality Krewe Wesley Sum-
mers said there were a lot of obstacles to overcome
to make Huntsville Pride a success. “The North Ala-
bama community has never received what one would
call “consistent attention” by any one large LGBT
organization,” Summers said. “As a result you had
several smaller groups attempting to do their own
thing, often in competition with each other. So by
the time Equality Krewe came around, the competi-
tion had grown to the point where egos had become
involved.”
Summers said eventually the different groups
were able to come together. “What really impressed
me, as an organizer, is the willingness of the individ-
ual groups and establishments to lay down their own
personal egos, and work together to make bigger and
better thing happen,” Summers said.
Summers said over 100 marchers participated in
the Pride Parade and there were no protesters.
“Actually we had two church groups show up to
march with us in the parade,” he said.
Summers said Equality Krewe has big plans for
next year’s celebration. “We are planning a more
family friendly, more inclusive event,” he said.
