4Ward Thinking
By this point, we all know the Coyote engine benefits
from the addition of headers. JBAs [(909) 599-5955;
www.jbaheaders.com] Cat4Ward offering fits 11-13
Mustang GTs, and are made with 3-inch-thick flanges at
the cylinder head, and connectors designed to connect
to the factory catalytic converter pipes. The four-tube
design is made from 16-gauge tubing with 134-inch
primaries for increased horsepower and torque,
and they fit both automatic and manual-
transmission cars. The best thing about
these headers is theyre emissions-legal
with a corresponding C.A.R.B. number,
making them legal for use in California.

Clearly visible
When it comes to gauges, Auto Meter [(866) 248-6356; www.autometer.com] has the Mustang market covered. You cant walk
by a Mustang at the track without seeing at least one Auto Meter product. Powered by race-hardened, precision internals, Auto
Meters new GT Series gauges are equipped with cutting edge, white LED illumination to make them easy to read in all conditions.
Fitted matte black bezels minimize glare while aircraft inspired dials constructed from real carbon fiber clearly communicate critical
performance data.

Weber CoyoTe
Tell us Jim Inglese Weber Carburetions
[(203) 623-0659; www.jiminglese.com]
new Ford Coyote Stack System isnt cool.
We dare you! True, Weber carbs havent
taken the Mustang world by storm, but
this system is also available as an EFI setup.
They are available in either a Independent
Runner Weber or EFI arrangement. The
eight-stack system, as its called, is designed
to provide a dramatic increase in torque
and horsepower throughout the entire
rpm range, but cmon, son, we would install
this system on its looks alone. Every unit
is custom-built and calibrated to suit your
engine, and can be ordered in a wide vari-
ety of plating and other finishes.

signaTure Fluid
Lets face it, theres nothing really sexy about transmission
fluid. You put it in your transmission and never think anything
of it again until you need more. Amsoils [(715) 392-7101;
www.amsoil.com] new Signature Series line of transmission fluid
now includes a Ford application designed to provide outstanding
performance at all temperatures and excellent oxidation stabil-
ity. Its also formulated to improve fuel efficiency, reduce trans-
mission temperatures, and increase equipment longevity.

Cool MounT
With street and drag Mustangs these days, theres less and less space for extra gear. Thankfully, if you need to mount an oil cooler any-
where on your Mustang, Earls [(270) 782-2900; www.holley.com] has this new bracket system to make it easier to find the perfect mount-
ing spot. Naturally, this system works with Earls oil coolers, features anodized aluminum construction with e-coated steel hardware and
rubber isolators to rigidly mount an oil cooler. The rubber isolators keep vibration at bay to make for a long life for your oil cooler, but
they also help make the best of less-than-ideal mounting situations.

Shockers Tig-Vision-tweaked UPR Products suspension hunkered down on these beautiful Holeshot Performance Wheels and Mickey Thompson tires would probably
give away the cars sinister intent even if the windows were blacked out. Speaking of street mode, we special-ordered the Holeshot Holestar wheels with 58-inch
centers which are thicker than standard centers so they will withstand the abuse our car might encounter while street driving. The 15x10-inch, three-piece rear
wheels wear 275/60-15 Mickey Thompson ET Street Radials, while two-piece 15x4-inch wheels wrapped with 26x6R-15 Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/R skinnies

requirements for our projected high-
8-second e.t.s, we played it safe and chose
an SFI 25.2 cage from Rogue Race Cars.
Viewed objectively, the decision to install
a full Funny-Car cage added a significant
amount of build time, cost more, and sacri-
ficed some streetability. Still, the elaborate
chrome-moly chassis provides a greater
measure of safety on the dragstrip, which
is priceless.
Choosing a trans for Shocker also
proved difficult. The car originally sported
a manual transmission and your author
loves banging gears, but an automatic is
more conducive to big-power racing on
radial tires. With that in mind, we decided
to install a Mighty Mite X6 from Dynamic
Racing Transmissions. Choosing the three-
speed M2-X6, which is based on Fords C4,
meant that we were sacrificing the use of
an overdrive gear. However, the M2-X6 is
ideal for running 8-second e.t.s with our
particular combo, so the lack of an over-
drive gear was a necessary concession in
our pursuit of speed.
In the interest of full disclosure, well
confess that Project Shocker was fully
assembled over a year ago. Unfortunately,
we encountered several new-car bugs
which conspired to delay the Shockers
completion. First, there was a tire clear-
ance issue which resulted in the decision
to mini-tub the car. Next, our Windsor-
swap exhaust did not match up with our
combo, which necessitated the use of a
custom-fabricated exhaust system. Worse
yet, an electrical problem during our first
start up attempts actually damaged the
brand-new engine and forced us to rebuild

on 275/60-15 drag radials, so a good torque con-

project. Our 9-inch T.C.T. Renegade converter has
a stall speed of 4,000 rpm. T.C.T. converters are
furnace-brazed and feature a hardened pump hub,
anti-ballooning plates, triple-bearing package, billet
stator, chrome-moly turbine hub with bushings,
and a 360-degree mounting ring. In addition to a
one-year warranty, T.C.T. converters carry an added
benefit that any necessary stall speed adjustment
will be performed at no cost, excluding shipping,
after test runs have been performed. Here, we

Project Shocker

Knowing Project
Shocker would spend a
considerable amount of
time at car shows and the
racetrack with its doors
and hatchback open and
the interior lights draining
the battery, we chose this
deep-cycle Optima Yellow
battery to provide ample
power with or without the
engine running. As before,
a 200-amp 3G alternator
from PA Performance is
relied upon to charge the
electrical system while
the engine is running. Ever the stubborn mule, our pony car was
plagued with numerous new car bugs. Despite our
best efforts, we never did achieve the ceremonial
first startup, so we admitted defeat and left it with
The Horse Whisperer, Tim Ike Eichhorn at Mustang
Performance Racing in Boynton Beach, Florida. As
it turned out, a minor electrical problem prevented
the big Windsor from firing up while cranking the
starter. Unfortunately, your overzealous author
kept right on cranking which ultimately caused it
to fuel-wash the cylinders and destroy the piston
ring seal. It was one simple, but expensive lesson
learned. Ike tore apart the brand-new engine, per-
formed the necessary repairs, and dropped it back
into the Shocker. Next, he went over the car from
front to back, in order to ensure that no other rookie
mistakes on our part would prevent the car from
running perfectly. When Ike called us to swing by
MPR for the ceremonial first start up we were skep-
tical, but sure enough the car fired right up, and boy
did it sound angry! In this photo, Ike was checking
for leaks while his son Tyler cycled the fuel pump.
Tyler performs quite a bit of work at MPR and he
earned an NMRA Signature Award for Outstanding
Sportsmanship or Racing Skill in 2012. It seems that
the apple doesnt fall far from the tree.

Given your authors OCD tendencies, it was absolutely necessary to rework all of Project Shockers wiring.
So we spent at least 50 hours removing every unnecessary circuit from each harness in order to make the
wiring much easier to work on in the future. Weight loss from the wires we removed was negligible, but the
end result was much cleaner. Most importantly, everything works! It is unusual to see a Fox Mustang with an
SFI 25.2 chassis and functional power windows, power locks, power mirrors, and other accessories.

Once the first startup monkey was off of our

stuff makes for great race fuel.
Widely available in the Midwest, where
its produced in great volume from corn,
ethanol is making its way to both coasts as
a motor fuel.
In fact, high-ethanol content fuel is now
available out of the pump or in drums
on the West Coast, specifically in the Los
Angeles and San Diego regions. Its called

That does offset its lower cost and makes
the Mustangs already small fuel capacity
seem even smaller. There are corrosion
issues as well.
Jim Bell, the big rotor at Kenne Bell,
became interested in E85 after Adam
Montague of Spankn Time Motorsports
(www.spankintime.com) began raving
about it. Adam is an accomplished modular
V-8 tuner, and was himself drug into tuning
E85 by an early adopting customer who
insisted his Mustang was going to burn the
stuff. As E85 came to Jim Bell, there were
many unanswered questions, plus all the
usual hype and Internet chatter confusing
the facts. In typical fashion, Jim and right-
hand man Ken Christley went to the lab
and dyno to science out the reality of E85
and how to best make horsepower with it
on supercharged engines.
To save everyone breathless anxiety
about how much power is possible with
E85, one of Adams tunes using a Kenne
Bell 3.6-liter Liquid Cooled supercharger
at 18 pounds of boost netted 820 rwhp
from his Coyote. At the strip on slicks
with minimal suspension upgrades this was
good for a 9.8 second pass at 142 mph; on
the street (the old guys are shaking their
heads ...), Adam prefers to pulley the car
right at 800 rwhp, still on E85. More on
all this as we go along, but be assured E85
helps make power and is quite streetable.
As Jim and Ken got on with their test-
ing, they concentrated on the fundamen-
tals of how E85 works rather than simply
trying to make maximum horsepower.
Thats more of what Adam does at ST
Motorsports, so there was no need to
duplicate his work, but rather a need to
provide an understanding of E85s prop-
erties. Areas Kenne Bell explored were
comparing E85 to C16 race fuel; different
air/fuel ratios and how they affected E85
power production; exhaust gas tempera-
ture studies; fuel flow comparisons with
C16; air/fuel ratio compared to fuel pres-
sure (important due to the high flow rates
required with E85); and boost tolerance of
C16 and E85.
At all times the emphasis was on E85
as a race fuel. Yes, it runs just fine on the
street, and Adam loves the stuff there
despite its lousy fuel economy. If your
Mustang is a dedicated weekend toy then
switching blower pulleys and draining fuel
tanks are a pain and you might as well run
E85 all the time. But to Jim Bell the idea is
to run a large blower pulley and premium
pump gasoline on the street, a combina-
tion that puts 550 hp or so to the tires,
then install a small pulley and E85 for track
duty. Conceptually this is identical to what
Kenne Bell has been advocating for years
with C16 race fuel. The big difference is
E85 is far cheaper and doesnt ruin cats or

Also on the chart, the variable in runs
004 and 011 was boost. This wasnt done
to check max power, in fact, with the
power reading being taken at 6,000 rpm
because the fuel system couldnt quite
keep up after that, the power listed in the
chart just hints at the max power. No, this
boost test was to establish the relationship
between EGT and boost. Jim penciled that
out as each 2.2 pound of boost gaining 34
hp and raising the EGT 17 degrees. And
yes, the power did go up, so that checked
out as well.
The chart above is a small sampling of
the Kenne Bell E85 tests. Note the fuel
system on the test car proved slightly
undersized with E85, so to allow com-
parison, all data was taken at 6,000 rpm.
Horsepower is greater at higher rpm (the
mechanical combination made power to
7,500 rpm), and Kenne Bell says a rough
approximation of maximum power can be
achieved by simply adding 41 hp to the
peak power reading in the chart.
The Average and Converted Actual
air/fuel ratios bear explanation. The
Converted Actual Air/Fuel Ration is the
actual air/fuel ratio the fuel system deliv-
ered during that test. The Average Air/
Fuel Ratio is identical for gasoline, but is a
calculated number with E85. It represents
the air/fuel ratio E85 would be if it were
gasoline. This eases comparing air/fuel
ratios between gasoline and E85.
Besides fitting a large enough capacity
fuel system, it is necessary to accom-
modate E85s corrosive nature. Ethanol is
not particularly friendly to some rubber,
plastic, and composite parts, so everything
in the fuel system must be vetted for use
with alcohol.
Everything must be alcohol compat-
ible, says Jim Bell. Hoses, fuel line fittings,
and epoxies used as electrical sealants in
the fuel pumps all proved vulnerable to
chemical attack from E85 in Bells experi-
ence. You cant let the car sit a long time
with E85 in it ... it corrodes the injectors.
The issue is fuel injectors have electri-
cal windings in their coils, and it turns
out the coils use mild- and not stainless-
steel wire. The alcohol corrodes the coils,
sticking the injectors fully open or shut.
Injectors approved for use with E85 seem
to have coils protected by a coating; in any
case, only injectors approved for use with
E85 can be used. And they are expensive.
Jim Bell went on to note E85 is cor-
rosive to aluminum, So you dont want
to pour it through a supercharger. The
rotors are aluminum and corrode. This
isnt an issue with a fuel-injected Mustang
engine because the injectors are down-
stream from the blower, but draw-through
carburetor applications are susceptible.
The reason to run E85 is power,
says Jim Bell, and hes right. Up to 550 hp
on pump gasoline makes more sense. Its
widely available, offers the greatest fuel

The downside is the considerable
expense of setting up the fuel system to

absolutely so if running E85 continuously, an E85-

easily done with a $15 fuel tester, which is really
just a graduated test tube. Testing is done by first
filling to a test line with water, then to a second line
with E85 and in few seconds the ethanol absorbs
the water, with the gasoline floating on top to give
the percentage. The tester is made by Quick Fuel
Technology and is widely available. 5.0

O
ur story begins on familiar
note as a budding Mustang
enthusiast snags a lighly used
SN-95 coupethanks to his
fathers financial assistance
at the ripe young age of 16. That was
more than a dozen years ago in 2000, and
the Pony in question was an unremarkable,
black-on-black 98 six-banger.
For too many of us, those first cars
never seem to last, so where our tale
happily departs from the norm is that
Christopher Alfieri still owns his first
Mustang. However, youd now be hard
pressed to guess its humble beginnings.
Which is not to say the relationship hasnt
had its ups and downs
Far from a golden-spoon story,
Christophers deal was that he was
completely on his own for all insurance,
gas, and maintenance, as well as for any
modifications he had in mind. Of course,
he had plenty in mind, cause what he
had really wanted was a Cobra. But the
economic realities of a teenager meant
moving slowly, detailing cars after school
to finance some mostly visual bolt-ons
that he installed himself. Still, by his senior
year in high school, his coupe had been
lowered, wore some aftermarket body
enhancements, some 4.10 gears, and was
even rigged with a 100-shot of dry nitrous.
By 2004, that giggle gas had taken By then, he was working at a shop It then rolled on 18-inch Saleen rims

before he could finish. From there, the
coupe went to a shop where Mikes son
worked, and where the paintjob was com-
pleted. Christopher loved the results: By
the end of 2007 the car was finally rebuilt.
Over the next few years, I would enjoy it
and do minor upgrades all around
All was good until 2009 when he ran
over a large piece of steel at highway
speed, which bounced up under the
coupe, mangling the headers and exhaust.
Enter a shop called Exotic Xhaust in
Hiram, Georgia, which fabbed a custom
set of long-tube headers with unusual flat,
merged collectors, meaning all four pri-
mary tubes are side by side in the collec-
tor. The end result, Christopher said, is
an exotic-looking and functional exhaust

It got ugly, as Chris explains: The girls
insurance company tried to total my car,
stating that it was a V-6 VIN car, and only
worth $3,000. Luckily, I have the Mustang
insured for a stated value with my insur-
ance company. I had to present all the
receipts to her insurance company, which
added up to around $60,000. I dont know
if I should be proud of that number or
vomit over that number
Long story short, the car was repaired
once again (the hardest part being find-
ing replacement BBS RK rims for the two

nearly 12 years, it was time for boost, so

The 13 GT500 has some fundamental
differences to previous models, but the
basics are similar, Gus Irizarry said. It
seems Ford put together a powerful com-

of horsepower and torque via torque and
throttle limiting. With the previous mod-
els we didnt see as much limiting. The
throttle limitations going on were one of
the biggest things we had to solve, and
once solved that alone unlocked a sub-
stantial amount of power.

This is where the rubber meets the roller

Steedas Dynojet. As you can see in the accom-

continues the tradition of readily benefitting from
easy modifications.

As you can see, the addition of the Steeda CAI

across the entire curve, but boost with the smaller
Steeda pulley was no slouch either. After our visit,
long-tubes and a throttle body brought the peaks
to 701.69 hp and 689.64 lb-ft.

Said tube is 114mm in

the CAI requires a tune.

It is necessary to adapt the factory PCV fitting to

Mustang Belt Tensioner (PN 555-3354; $262.45).
This adjustable tensioner allows you to dial-in more
belt wrap and less slip, which is quite handy when
you install a smaller supercharger pulley.

With things flowing freely thanks to the CAI, Matt

moved on to installing a smaller supercharger pulley.
He first dismounted the coolant overflow bottle from
the fan shroud before using a socket and extension
to swing the supercharger belt tensioner enough to
slip the belt off the pulley. It isnt necessary to com-
pletely remove it.

Its a simple thing, but dont forget to plug in the

mass-air sensor. The car wont run too well without
this connection.

After reinstalling the belt and setting the Steeda

tensioner, Matt returned to the keyboard to tune the
GT500 to accept the increased boost. He prefers to
balance power gains with safety and will happily
sacrifice a couple extra ponies to keep the timing
in a safe range. Matt had to work on the drive by
wire tables as well as the torque management tables
to stop the torque and throttle limiting going on,
then he was able to concentrate on spark and fuel-
ing to optimize the combinations from there, Gus
explained. 5.0

Renegade racer Valerie Clements is a quick
learner. While brother Alton was out unsuccessfully
skateboarding for chicks at MIR with Brent Weston,
Valerie was putting the boys on the trailer. For the
rained-out Atlanta final, she beat AJ Wyce. Moving
onto the MIR event, she qualified Third with an
8.41 at 163 mph, and once again had to face older
brother Alton in Round 1. In 2012, this match-up
meant Valerie was on the trailer, but she has turned
the tables in her favor these days. After trailering big
brother, she took out Tim Matherly even though Tim
knocked her over the head with the Tree. Her 8.36
was too much for Tim to overcome. Unfortunately,
since youre reading about her here, you know at
some point she lost, and at Maryland it was Brian
Mitchell who did the deed in the semi-final round.

sTReeT ouTlAw
Thankfully, the revamped Street Outlaw class flourished under the new rules implemented for 2013. One thing that hasnt changed is John Uristhes still at the top
of his game. Switching back to a turbo for the 2013 season, John found there was a short learning curve to get back in the groove, but at MIR he showed why he has
97 NMRA championships. OK, so thats a slight exaggeration, but it seems he has that many. He qualified at the top of Street Outlaw
with a 7.154, but he had to rely on quick reaction times to get the event win. Johns slowest reaction time during eliminations was
a 0.434 light, which was in the final against Phil Hines. Both in the semis and the final round, John used holeshots to outrun his
opponents and get the win.

NMRA MARylANd

Phil Hines is having quite a year. He was able to eclipse the 6-second zone earlier in the year, and he got the
event win at the NMRA Bradenton opener. At MIR, his ProCharger-motivated machine looked to be on a mis-
sion. He qualified right on the heels of John Urist with a 7.156. He was the model of consistency in elimina-
tions, running a 7.14 in Round 1, a 7.15 in the semis, and a 7.12 in the final against John Urist. However, it
wasnt enoughJohn had gotten the jump, and Phil ran out of pavement to get the win.

ReNegAde
Brian Mitchell has his 13 program working really well. Earlier in the year, he
struggled with e.t.s, but it seems hes found his Renegade cars sweet spot.
As has been the case the past couple years, Brian is again the one to beat.
Hes got a tenth on the field at almost every event, and at MIR it was more
of the same. The only other car in the neighborhood is one Brian helps out
onAdam Arndts Fox racer. True to form, Brian and Adam were the last ones racin on Sunday. If we have
learned anything since following the NMRA, its that Brian Mitchell is one of the most consistent racers in
its history. That consistency led to the win when he was able to show Adam the student has much to learn
before beating the teacher.
Having missed a couple races due to
body, chassis, and cage overhauls,
Renegade racer Adam Arndt was
ready to put his 88 GT in the thick
of things. Thats exactly what he did,
too. He qualified right behind Brian
Mitchell with an 8.36 at 162 mph,
but he wasnt able to duplicate that
performance, especially when it mat-
tered in the final against Brian. Adam
runs a HD Performance-built, 310ci
small-block with a Vortech YSi-Trim
supercharger. Adam tunes the car
with a lot of help from the guy he met
in the final, Brian Mitchell.

CoyoTe sToCk
It was a really good
weekend for Coyote
Stock racer Shiftin
Shane Stymiest. First
off, he won the rained-
out Atlanta race against Jacob Lamb, and in the
process, qualified at the top of the list with a mind-
bending 10.38 at 127 mph. Shanes 0.38 was the
talk of Coyote Stock qualifying, leaving his fellow
racers scratching their heads. With night qualifying
at MIR, Shane looked like he best took advantage of
the cool air. He came back to the pack with consis-
tent high-10.40s/low-10.50s on Sunday, which was
good enough for him to take the win to garner two
event wins in the same weekend.

No one had a better weekend than Shiftin Shane

Stymiest, but Jacob Lambs wasnt too bad either.
He runner-upped to Shane for the rained-out Atlanta
race, and again played second fiddle to Shane. Its
not lack of trying on Jacobs part, thats for sure.
Hes right there on the cusp of victory, but so far this
season, victory is just outside his grasp. Jacob tried
new stuff all year. He switched transmissions in the
off-season, and even experimented with smaller rear
wheels and slicks to reduce rolling resistance and
rotating mass. The smaller rear wheels and slicks
didnt offer any gains, but the other changes have
shown incremental improvements. He hasnt tasted
victory yet in 2013, but after three races, Jacobs
been to two final rounds.

Matt Amrines ritual is to make a pass, come back to the pits, do a
little routine maintenance, ice the engine down with his custom cooler
setup, and look over data with crew chief Brandon Alsept. Then its
time to kick back and prepare for the next round. Maybe in between hell catch a few bites made by his wife,
Danielle, and hang with her, Brandon, and Brian Campbell. Then he, Brandon, and Brian go over the plan for
the next qualifying pass, or elimination round, then its all up to Matt once hes buckled in. Matt was still in
the hunt for the rained-out Atlanta race, but John Leslie Jr. was able to get past him in the semi-final round
for that event. However, Matt was able to exact a little revenge in the final for the MIR race, getting the win.

Being at the track is like a family reunion for John Leslie Jr. You can pretty much find his whole family at
every NMRA race. Bad thing is, sister Sondra also races in Factory Stock, and just like Alton and Valerie
Clements in Renegade, they have to race each other pretty much every race. At MIR, that was again the
case. After John won the rained-out Atlanta race, he had to face Sondra in Round 1. Since John was in the
Maryland groove, he was able to move past Sondra and back into a rematch against Matt Amrine in the final.
Unfortunately for John, he was unable to duplicate his previous times, handing the event win to Matt.

which was too much for Johnny to overcome. 5.0

the aural experience was going to be a lot different. Using variable adjusters that are

Grabber Six
Michelle Bednarz keeps her 09 Grabber Orange V-6 in the best condition possible, which is a huge task since the car serves as
her daily car. Its also her show car, so she is plenty busy. The cars a Premium Package 45th Anniversary V-6 coupe, and features Ford
Racing Performance Parts lowering springs and GT/CS 18-inch wheels. Otherwise, the car is stock except for lots of bling, Michelle
says. That bling includes chrome accents throughout the interior; custom airbrushed battery and master cylinder covers; a Grabber
Orange plenum cover; custom trunk enclosures; and chrome accents on the side mirrors, door handles, quarter-windows, and gas
door. Of the 49,000 miles on the car at press time, Michelle figures 40,000 of those are road-trip miles to and from her hometown of
Itasca, Illinois.

Premium Pony
Leander, Texas Rich Hovan is the proud owner of this 12 Mustang GT boasting a Premium Pony red leather interior with a Mach
1000 audio system and Boss 302 dash cluster. The outside was treated to a Laguna Seca front splitter with additional driving lights
and FRPP wheels. The GTs handling is upgraded thanks to Laguna Seca sway bars, struts, and shocks. However, magic was performed
under the hood, too, with ported heads, FRPP valvetrain pieces, a BBK Performance 90mm throttle body, and a BBK cold air intake.
We wont give away all of Richs secrets, but BBK also supplied the GTs headers, which feed into a full FRPP exhaust. Pro-Modular
Performance of Austin, Texas, tuned the car using SCT software.

oriGinal Vert
Residing in the Sunshine State makes owning a Mustang convertible a natural choice. Palm Coast, Floridas John Carver owns this
90 GT convertible with 109,000 miles on it. We dont see too many Fox verts with nice tops. Although its not shown here, John
says the factory white top is in excellent condition. The droptop features an AOD transmission, 3.73 gears, an Explorer intake, a FRPP
E303 cam, an MSD ignition, BBK Performance long-tube headers, and a Flowmaster after-cat exhaust. John also tells us the GTs paint
is original and it looks awesome, as he puts it. 5.0

Are you BOtM material?

Ashley
A
ndrew Pangburn of Newport News, Virginia, is a hero, and not just
because he encouraged his lovely fianc, Ashley Leiphart, to pose for
BOTM. Andrew is an avionics technician on the F-22
Raptor in the U.S. Air Force. He is assigned to the 27th
Aircraft Maintenance Unit, part of the 1st Fighter Wing
at Langley Air Force Base. Obviously, if he knows his way around a
fighter plane, hes not going to let the Competition Orange 04
Mach 1 in these photos stay stock.
...It has a K&N FIPK air intake, an X-pipe, and a Borla Stinger
Cat-Back. It has an MGW short shifter with 3.73 gears and Stage 2
clutch, Andrew explained. On the interior it has custom-painted
orange door handles and center console. I also have a 34-inch-raised
Shaker. Under the hood, I have a custom-painted black intake plenum,
cam covers, coil covers, and inlet tube. The car rides on Latemodel
Restoration SVE Drift wheels, 18x9 front and 18x10 rear.
As impressive as the car is, youll be blown away by 21-year-old
Ashley. Its no surprise that she does a little modeling for Raretoy
Studios and Carl D. Photography. Its also not a surprise that she loves
Mustangs and formerly owned a 97 Cobra. This next part, however,
might come as a shock. She is currently a stay-at-home mom, taking
care of our two kids, Andrew explained. One is 5 years old and the
other is 3 weeks old. Model and Mustang momimpressive.
We know youve stopped reading by now, but if you think you
know a gal that is BOTM material, well, you wont know if you dont
get out from under the hood and take a picture of her with your

Laughing in the face of deadlines

Caption Contest
Sometimes we struggle to find photos for this
contest. Other times they just fall into our laps.
This is one of those times.
Our friends over at Mustang Monthly magazine
found this four-eye Fox on their Facebook page
and just had to share it with us. We were initially
speechless, but then we got wrapped up in the
details of this Fox, including the clear hood insert,
vented grille insert, and, ahem, upgraded lighting.
As they say, a picture is worth 1,000 words,
and we imagine this photo might be worth 1,000
captions. So send those clever captions our way.
Make us laugh and you might just score a 5.0&SF
license plate. Send those creative entries to
October Caption Contest, 5.0 Mustang & Super
Fords, 9036 Brittany Way, Tampa, FL 33619 or
email to finish.line@sorc.com, and dont forget
no street address, no license plate. Also, unless
youre quick to the post office, email is the way to
go: Deadlines dont wait for snail mail.
