Salsa

Developmental Level 1
Objective: Students will be able to better develop coordination skills through rhythm.
Teaching Method: Direct Instruction and Mastery learning
Equipment and Set-up: Fit spots, speakers, song
Introduction and Warm up: Who has heard about salsa? Salsa means sauce, and it is a dance. After WWII a lot
of people came to the United States. New York was the place where people from Cuba, Venezuela, Colombia,
and Puerto Rico combined their dances and created salsa!

Warm-up: students will run 1 lap and do stretches.
Fitness Activity: Have the class walk and then freeze and have them observe their legs and how their feet are
positioned.
I will stand in front of the whole class and teach them the salsa steps.
Use the fit spots to guide yourself on where you need to put your foot when you go forward and back.
Left foot forward

Focus Activity: Have them get into partners and grab each other’s hands. Start with your left. Count out loud.
