Autobiography

My name is Chantal Peng, I am a grade 11 student at Horton High School,

and hopefully this biography will give you a little insight on who I am and
what I love.

A few things to know about me: I am very clumsy! An example would be

tripping up the stairs a numerous amount of times, and also spill food all
over myself- even when I am being my most careful. Avoiding the physical
talents aside, I am very inquisitive and energetic. I enjoy going on runs with
my cat; I ask a lot of questions on any topic that comes to mind. In my
spare time, I like to spend my time watching movies and reading online articles. I do
not enjoy the rain. Rain always makes me feel literally under the weather.
Therefore, I will probably never live in England. My major interests are music,
humanitarian aid, high fashion, interior designing and architecture, and movies! I
enjoy all things regarding pleasantry, finding soulful happiness, and connecting with
nature- basically anything to help me become a more positive and humble person
who can act as a role model for those around me.

I am very passionate about everything about social justice- especially the

empowerment of women and the current ignorance surrounding global warming, races, and
refugees. I identify with these issues as I am first generation Canadian with both parents
immigrating from China to Canada. In China, there is so much pollution that you cant see the
sky; and the vegetables grown in the suburbs are cleansed with extremely harmful chemicals.
As well, the racism, prejudice and overall ignorance that surrounds people of different colors
and religions literally stab me in the heart every time I hear about an event. This is because
Horton High School, my community, and the people in the Valley are very respectful and
engaged in different cultures. And as I get older, I realise how fortunate I am to have those to
support me- this support is not available to so many women and children in other parts of the
world.

I come from a family of six: I have three younger sisters, a mother and a father. We
also have the cutest little kitten named Raccoon. We named her raccoon because
she is long-haired and has physical features resembling a raccoon. She is very
curious of her surroundings. I like to take her on runs around my neighborhood.
Raccoon has very fast little legs and feet- she doesnt actually run like a normal cat
would, rather, she hops like a rabbit. It is quite a sight to see us together on our
excursions! Although I was born in St. Johns Newfoundland, I have lived in Wolfville
Nova Scotia for most of my life.
I enjoy all of my school subjects. However, I am not very good at Pre Calculus. I enjoy partaking
in the various clubs and activities and courses at school. I have been taking nine courses for my
grade 11 school year, and will take another 9 courses next year for grade 12. Horton is a great
school, as there is air conditioning, plenty of opportunity to enjoy clubs and activities, and have
friendly teachers and mentors. Therefore, I enjoy all of my courses equally, hence my effort in
hoping to do well in all my subjects.

I have been a pianist/ organist for St. Johns Anglican Church Parish from 2014-2015. I was the
pianist for Evangeline the Musical in 2015. I have been the
pianist for the Wolfville Mayors Levee for the past five years; this
August I will be the organist for Covenanter Church in Grand
Pre. As the Me to We co-chair at Horton, I have volunteered at
the Wolfville Farmers Market, Wolfville Childrens Centre, and
other places in and around the community. I have enjoyed all of these jobs, and would definitely
try to pursue these on the side in the future.

I have played piano and violin since I was 6 years old, and have accumulated some recognition
and awards, such as: I have won first place at the National Finals of the Canadian Music
Competition last year; won the Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition this
year; have played in Carnegie Hall in New York in 2015; have won first place in the Great
Composers International Piano Concerto Competition last fall; have appeared on CBC
Radio One last summer; have won the Acadia Rose Bowl a total of five times here in the
Valley Music Festival; have completed my ARCT Piano Diploma- the highest level of music
education from the Royal Conservatory in Toronto; have won second place in the American
Protege International Romantic Music Competition

I dont play on any sports teams, but I accompany the school choir. I am the
Me to We co-chair this year and next year; I am the Nova Scotia Ambassador
for ACT 4 Global Change; and will be the secretary on Student Council at
school next year. As well, I am a member of Jack.org- a mental health
advocacy initiative.
