2. Bring up Wiki.
3. Show students the Wiki Animal pages: I have completed the
page on Emperor Penguins that we did together when learning
how to use the KidRex search engine. (Show this page to the
students.) Each group is to choose a different animal. Write
your names on the page with the animal your group chooses.
Explain that the page also contains the questions they need to
answer about their chosen animal. Your answers must be in
complete sentences. Do not write one word answers and do not
copy what the computer says. Tell the students to go to
KidRex.org to do the research.
4. Reminders: Ask specific questions. Check the readability
with the students; eliminate those that sound too hard to read.
Take a moment to look at the page and see if it sounds good. Is
there anything that might make us question the site? Drawings
instead of photos? Cartoons? Do not forget to tell where you
found your answer.
5. As each question is read and the answer found, return to the
Wiki to write the answer and tell where you found it. There is
a rubric on each page to help you remember how to write a
complete sentence.
6. Lesson wrap: Today we worked with partners to research an
animal. We wrote our findings on a Wiki page. Tomorrow we
will take our findings and begin to turn them into a photo story
that we will publish.
Assessment Each student will answer at least two questions on the Wiki
and in complete sentences
Next Step Tomorrow, we will finish our research if needed and then
begin to create a photo story of our animal.
